Mike Moustakas hit his fifth home run of the season as the Royals defeated the Rangers 7-4 on Tuesday.

He finished the night 1-for-2 with a walk, and also scored two runs. Moustakas is now hitting an impressive .310 on the season with five homers and 16 RBI, showing off the tremendous promise and offensive potential that he possesses. At just 23 years of age, he's an extremely special hitter and caries major upside in keeper leagues.

Zack Greinke continued his brilliant run on Tuesday night, limiting the Brewers to just five hits over seven shutout innings.

Greinke struck out seven and didn't walk a batter in the game. When he's on, he ranks among the top pitchers in the league. And he was certainly on tonight. Greinke hasn't been scored upon in his last 15 innings of work, lowering his ERA to 2.88 in the process. He'll look to keep that streak going when he squares off against the Twins on Sunday.
May 15 - 10:42 PM

Jim Johnson shut down the Yankees to earn his 12th save of the season on Tuesday, tying him with Chris Perez for the major league lead.

Johnson continues to impress, needing only eight pitches to dispatch the Yankees on Tuesday. His ERA now sits at a microscopic 0.54 and he's quickly turning into one of the most consistent closers in the league.
May 15 - 10:11 PM

Wei-Yin Chen continued his strong start to the season on Tuesday, allowing just two runs on four hits over seven innings in a win against the Yankees.

Chen walked two and struck out four in the game. The lone blemish on his night was a two-run homer surrendered to Curtis Granderson in the seventh inning. With the victory, Chen improves to 4-0 on the season and now sports an impressive 2.45 ERA. He'll look to keep the momentum going when he takes on the Nationals in Washington on Sunday. At this point, the left-hander should be owned and started in most mixed fantasy leagues.

Rays manager Joe Maddon said it will be either Alex Cobb or Chris Archer taking Jeff Niemann's (leg) spot in the rotation.

Wade Davis, who made 29 starts each of the last two seasons for Tampa, will remain in the bullpen, where he's posted a 2.04 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 12 appearances. While Archer has pitched a bit better than Cobb of late at Triple-A Durham, allowing one run over his last two starts, Cobb's numbers are better overall this season, and he pitched well for the big club last year. He would be our bet to get the nod. Niemann's spot comes up Saturday against the Braves.

Brett Lawrie was ejected from Tuesday's game after taking a called strike three and throwing his helmet, which bounced and struck home plate umpire Bill Miller.

Lawrie is likely looking at a suspension. Miller made two bad strike calls in the at-bat, but Lawrie can't lose his temper like that. While he surely didn't intend to hit the home plate umpire, we still anticipate the act costing him a few games.
May 15 - 9:50 PM

Ben Zobrist had a nice night at the dish on Tuesday, going 3-for-5 as the Rays downed the Blue Jays 4-3.

He put the Rays on the board in the fifth inning with an RBI double off Henderson Alvarez. After a poor start to the 2012 campaign, Zobrist has started to come on strong as of late. Though his average still sits at .234, he has drawn 30 walks, scored 21 times and driven home 17. He seems to factor into the Tampa Bay attack on a nightly basis.
May 15 - 9:50 PM

Mike Trout had a big night at the plate on Tuesday, going 3-for-4 with a solo home run in the Angels' 4-0 victory over the Athletics.

Trout also scored three times in the game. His solo blast off Bartolo Colon in the seventh inning was his third home run of the year and provided a valuable insurance run, putting the Angels ahead 4-0. Trout is hitting .316 with three homers, eight RBI and three steals in just 57 at-bats. He certainly looks as if he belongs, and should be owned and started in all fantasy leagues at this point.

Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Chris Young (shoulder) has an "outside shot" of playing this weekend against the Royals.

Young began a rehab assignment with High-A Visalia Monday and will stay there through Wednesday before heading to Triple-A Reno. Gibson isn't putting a timetable on how long Young will remain at Reno, but it sounds like we probably won't see him with the D'Backs until next week. "It’s a different game ... here," Gibson said. "We’d like him to play most of the time or every day. He’s just not 100 percent yet."
May 15 - 9:12 PM

Troy Tulowitzki (leg) is back in the Rockies' lineup Tuesday.

Tulo was in a ton of pain after being hit by a line drive while waiting for his turn to bat late in Monday's game, but X-rays came back negative and he's back in there Tuesday. The Rockies are squaring off against the Giants' Tim Lincecum.
May 15 - 7:28 PM

Josh Beckett struck out nine in seven innings and combined with two relievers on a shutout of the Mariners on Tuesday.

For all the angst surrounding Beckett lately, this was his fifth quality start in seven outings this season. His fastball is still a bit off, so don't expect him to return to 2011 form. Still, he should produce value in mixed leagues the rest of the way.
May 15 - 7:09 PM

Updating an earlier item, Jose Valverde left Tuesday's appearance with lower back tightness.

It's not considered a big deal, but we wouldn't be surprised if the Tigers choose to hold him out a day or two. Joaquin Benoit could be a short-term option for saves.
