Corbin Berkstresser was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident.

The incident involved hitting a parked car and there were no injuries. It seems like a simple case that will not linger. That is a good thing because leaving the scene of an accident is a felony and, according to university police, an athlete cannot return to action until a felony case is resolved. Berkstresser was the Tigers’ No. 1 QB during the spring while starter James Franklin was shelved due to injury. Berkstresser, who will be a redshirt freshman, was on the scout team last fall.

Spring practice was valuable for DeVondrick Nealy.

Nealy was the scout team’s offensive player of the year in 2011 and he wants that experience to translate into opportunities with the Cyclones’ running game in 2012. Coach Paul Rhoads was pleased with the Nealy’s spring – as well as that of another young RB, Rob Standard – which concluded with 28 yards rushing and a reception in the spring game.

Aaron Green announced that he will transfer to TCU.

Feeling he did not fit into the Cornhuskers’ scheme, the running back indicated late last month that he was leaving Nebraska, though he did not reveal where he was headed. The Texas native will be closer to home and play in what he feels will be s system better suited to his skills. Unless Green petitions the NCAA for a waiver, he will have to sit out the 2012 season. That timing could prove beneficial as, among TCU’s leading running backs from a year ago, only Waymon James will still be around.

Max Wittek showed marked improvement while competing to be Matt Barkley’s primary backup.

Either Wittek or Cody Kessler will enter the season as the No. 2 quarterback. At least on paper, they were even coming out of the spring. Wittek has a strong arm and is growing more comfortable in coach Lane Kiffin’s system.

Tony Lippett will be counted on to have an impact on offense.

The NCAA waiver De’Anthony Arnett acquired allowing him to play in 2012 after transferring from Tennessee is huge given the Spartans’ lack of retuning experience at receiver. Lippett, in fact, is the leading returning receiver with all of 4 catches for 44 yards. He started five games at corner as a freshman last season, but was listed as a starting receiver coming out of the spring. Lippett’s spring was cut short due to injury, but coach Mark Dantonio is counting on him to make things happen on offense.

Marquel Wade was among three Razorbacks arrested and charged with burglary.

The bad news continues in Fayetteville this off-season. Wade is expected to step up in his sophomore season to help ease the loss of a couple of key receivers. He still may, but a price is sure to be paid before he can take the field again. As a freshman last season, Wade caught eight passes for 62 yards (all in the first five games) and averaged 25.5 yards on 14 kick returns. He took one back 85 yards for a score against New Mexico. Also arrested were receiver Maudrecus Humphrey and tight end Andrew Peterson.

Ken McRoyal was shot and killed Sunday in Los Angeles.

McRoyal appeared in eight games (one start) and caught six passes after making the team as a walk-on last season. Prior to joining the Vandals, McRoyal played at El Camino Junior College in California. He would have been a senior in the fall.

Defensive back and kick returner Malcolm Marable was arrested following a fracas with a nightclub bouncer. It was Marable's second brush with the law this year.

Marable said he was coming to the aid of teammate Ryan Murphy, who was using the ID of yet another teammate, Anthony Watkins, at the nightclub. All three are defensive backs. Marable is deep down the spring depth chart at corner. The sophomore-to-be averaged 24.8 yards on 13 kick returns last season.

Sterling Shepard and other incoming freshmen receivers are suddenly going to have to be key players following suspensions.

Jaz Reynolds, Trey Franks and Kameel Jackson were suspended indefinitely leaving little experience at the position heading into 2012. For now, Kenny Stills (61 rec. in '11) is the lone returning veteran receiver, which means Shepard and others are going to experience a preseason camp beyond what they could have expected. Jackson announced last week that he was trsnsferring to Texas A&M. He was still enrolled at OU.

The NCAA ruled that transfer DeAnthony Arnett is eligible to play for Michigan State in 2012.

A sigh of relief resonated throughout East Lansing when the NCAA announced its decision. The Spartans' top three pass catchers from last season have moved on and some experience is badly needed -- especially given a new QB is being broken in as well. Arnett transferred from Tennessee to be closer to his ailing father and petitioned the NCAA for a hardship waiver in the hopes of not having to sit out the 2012 season. He got his wish. Arnett caught 24 passes for 242 yards and 2 TDs for the Vols last season as a freshman.

WR Jaz Reynolds was among four Sooners suspended indefinitely for violation of team rules.

Reynolds and fellow receivers Trey Franks and Kameel Jackson were also suspended along with DB Quentin Hayes. Reynolds is the Sooners second-leading returning receiver with 41 receptions for 715 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2011. Reynolds was suspended for his entire freshman season of 2010 following inappropriate use of social media. Jackson announced last week that he was trsnsferring to Texas A&M. He was still enrolled at OU.

Caleb Terbush leaves spring game as No. 1 QB for the Boilermakers

According to coach Danny Hope, TerBush progressed well last year and as the season went on he gained the confidence needed to be a starting QB in the Big 10. TerBush shouldn’t get too comfortable. Behind him are Rob Henry and Robert Marve, two quarterbacks with starting experience of their own.

Clint Moseley’s battle to maintain the starting quarterback job will continue in preseason practice.

Moseley was limited this spring thanks to a shoulder injury that should be fully healed come August. Kiehl Frazier is his primary competition and he came on nicely in the spring. Coach Gene Chizik was pleased with what both QBs showed, but also noted that they have a long way to go. Hence, he is not in a hurry to tab a No. 1.

Leg surgery will cost Stephen Alli three months, and therefore possibly the start of preseason camp.

The 6-foot-6 receiver out of Toronto was discovered at a camp held by former coach Urban Meyer in the summer of 2009. Alli redshirted that first year and has not been able to earn much playing time beyond special teams since. He has only three career receptions, each coming last season.

Blake Sims could be a backup option to AJ McCarron.

With Phillip Sims transferring to Virginia, the Tide does not have any experience behind McCarron. Phillip Ely, who on paper became the No. 2 when Phillip Sims left, did not see the field as a freshman last season. Blake Sims was a standout quarterback in high school and coach Nick Saban noted there was a plan to give him some work at the position last year. That plan could be accelerated come August. Blake Sims, who will be a sophomore, did not have a carry last season and is not in line to get much work at running back in 2012. That could be all the more reason to use his talent at QB.
