Marc Turnesa was the last man to sneak into the HP Byron Nelson field at the commitment deadline and will look to make the best of his opportunity this week.

Turnesa has found starts hard to come by playing out of the Past Champion category, but he's done a decent job of making the most of them. He's cashed in three of his four attempts, with a T16 at Mayakoba as the highlight. He'd rank first in Strokes Gained-Putting at 2.302 if he had enough rounds in the books to qualify.

Richard S. Johnson has been a bit of a ghost on the PGA TOUR in 2012, but will make the start at this week's HP Byron Nelson Championship.

The reason for the Swede's limited number of starts is his relegation to Past Champion status. He has made the cut two of his three TOUR starts, with a T12 at Mayakoba the highlight. He's also made five additional starts world-wide, with limited success. He shot 10-over-par to miss the cut here last year.

After a nice run on the Florida swing, Dicky Pride looks to find his groove in Texas at the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Playing out of the Past Champion category, Pride has taken advantage of his opportunities, cashing in five of his six starts. His run was highlighted by a T5 at Mayakoba and a T7 at The Honda. He currently ranks 117th in the FedExCup standings.

Shane Bertsch will make his fifth start of the year at the HP Byron Nelson Championship, where he missed the cut in 2011.

Bertsch has found starts hard to come by, as he's playing with conditional status. His only made cut came at Pebble Beach. If there is a highlight to be found, he's split 64.03 percent of his fairways.

Matt McQuillan missed the cut in last year's HP Byron Nelson Championship, but he's earned the chance to try and rectify that this week.

McQuillan has found starts hard to come by, playing on conditional status. He's missed the cut in all four of his starts this year, and he has as many rounds in the 80s as he does in the 60s -- one. His 49.21 GIR percentage goes a long way in telling the tale of his struggles.

Garrett Willis, playing on conditional status, is in the field at this week's HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Willis has cashed in three of his five starts this year, with his best finish being a T37 at the Mayakoba Golf Classic. He missed the cut in last year's trip to the TPC Four Seasons. While his ball-striking hasn't been impressive, he'd rank ninth in Strokes Gained-Putting if he logged enough rounds to qualify.

Chris Riley has been added to the published field of this week's HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Riley started the week as the fourth alternate. He gained entry when Neal Lancaster withdrew today. Riley is 2-for-5 on the PGA TOUR this year, but his notable result was a co-runner-up at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open on the Nationwide Tour in late March. He's cashed in six of his eight trips to TPC Four Seasons Resort and logged three top 25s.

The veteran will turn 50 years of age in just under four months.

Paul Stankowski signed for a 2-under-par 35-35=70 following his round in today's open qualifier for the HP Byron Nelson Championship at Lantana (Tex.) Golf Club, but it was two strokes too high to join the playoff for the final exemption into the tournament proper.

Stankowski lives in Flower Mound, Tex., which is just north of Irving, host of the HPBNC. He circled three birdies and suffered one bogey in his effort. Other notables that failed to qualify include: 69--Todd Fischer ... 70--David Branshaw; David Morland IV ... 71--Ted Purdy; Will Strickler ... 72--Frank Lickliter II; Chris Smith; Tom Byrum; Joel Edwards ... 73--Glen Day ... 75--Leif Olson.

Patrick Reed buried eight birdies en route to a bogey-free, 8-under-par 31-33=64 and medalist honors at today's four-spotter for this week's HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Reed finished three strokes clear of co-runners-up Stuart Deane (5-under 32-35=67) and former PGA TOUR member Todd Demsey (bogey-free 33-34=67) at Lantana (Tex.) Golf Club. Reed also earned exemptions in New Orleans and Charlotte via the open qualifiers. A 4-man playoff determined the final berth today. TOUR winner Robert Gamez emerged after finishing regulation in bogey-free, 4-under 32-36=68. He eliminated Chris Thompson (bogey-free 35-33=68), Sam Cyr (33-35=68) and Cole Moreland (35-33=68). The field for the HPBNC is now complete at 156.

Dustin Johnson will return to competition at the Memorial on May 31-June 3.

This is certainly welcome news for all of DJ's fantasy owners. He has been sidelined for two months with a back injury. "Obviously, I can’t wait to get back out and compete," he said in a statement. "I came into this year with some big goals, including making our Ryder Cup team, so I’ve got some serious ground to make up this summer." He's currently 21st in Ryder Cup points. "I’m feeling better every day and working hard, so I plan to be 100 percent ready by the time the Memorial rolls around. I’m still a little rusty, but it’s falling off in chunks. It will be great to get back out there and I can assure you I’ll be plenty motivated,"

Scott Verplank has been removed from the published field of this week's HP Byron Nelson Championship.

You suspected that this would happen when he withdrew after 23 holes at last week's PLAYERS due to a wrist injury. The 2007 champ of the HPBNC has made 25 appearances at the tournament and sits atop its all-time money list.

Duffy Waldorf has been added to the published field of this week's HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Waldorf was the second alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon. He gained entry after two withdrawals this morning.
