Michael Foltynewicz (elbow) could be activated from the disabled list to start Thursday against the Marlins.

Foltynewicz, who is working his way back from a sore elbow, allowed one hit over five scoreless innings and struck out five in a minor league rehab start with Triple-A Gwinnett last Saturday. The Braves originally planned to give him another rehab start on Thursday, but the plan could change following Aaron Blair's demotion and John Gant's oblique injury.

Steven Souza (hip) hit and ran the bases Tuesday.

Souza said Monday that he was hoping to begin a minor league rehab assignment later this week, but he hasn't been cleared yet. It's possible he'll take batting practice against rehabbing right-handers Alex Cobb and Chase Whitley on Thursday. We should know more on his status after that.

Michael Fulmer will start Friday against the Rays.

Fulmer hasn't pitched since last Wednesday when he gave up one run in 4 1/3 innings against the Mariners, so he'll be going a full eight days between starts. The Tigers are trying to keep his workload in check and will continue to look for ways to give him breaks. Fulmer has thrown 79 innings this season between the majors and the minors. He threw 124 2/3 innings (his highest workload as a professional) last year in the minors.

Warwick Saupold (groin) has been cleared to resume workouts.

Saupold exited Monday's rehab apperance with Triple-A Toledo after aggravating his groin injury. He'll pitch with High-A Lakeland once he's ready to return to action.

Reds recalled RHP Keyvius Sampson from Triple-A Louisville.

He'll take JJ Hoover's spot on the active roster. Sampson has made four appearances with the Reds this season and owns a 2.06 ERA and 58/19 K/BB ratio over 56 2/3 innings in Triple-A. He'll operate in middle relief.

Reds optioned RHP JJ Hoover to Triple-A Louisville.

Hoover has allowed 11 runs over his last three appearances and now owns a 13.50 ERA for the year. Keyvius Sampson will take his place in the Reds' bullpen.

Oswaldo Arcia was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Red Sox due to illness.

It's probably safe to call him day-to-day. Nick Franklin will take his place in the lineup and play left field. Brandon Guyer will slide over to right field.
