Billy Burns went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a stolen base, and three runs scored in Sunday's victory over the Rays.

Burns led off the game with a solo home run to right field off of Erasmo Ramirez, serving as his first career long ball. He also singled twice and stole a base en route to scoring two more runs. The speedy outfielder has been a spark plug at the top of the Athletics' lineup, batting .309/.356/.395 with seven stolen bases in nine attempts.

Kyle Seager singled and belted a solo homer in Sunday's loss to the Blue Jays.

He scored the Mariners' only two runs of the game, going deep in the second and then scoring on a sac fly in the seventh. Seager is starting to heat up, having homered in back-to-back games and while hitting .311 with five longballs over his last 16 contests.

Cubs third base prospect Jeimer Candelario smashed two homers in Saturday's win for High-A Myrtle Beach.

It's the second multi-homer game of his career. Candelario had been 0-for-12 in his previous three games. The 21-year-old hit only .223 in the minors last season, but this year he's up to .270 with 14 RBI. Candelario also singled on Saturday, giving him his fifth three-hit game of the season.

Rangers signed RHP Jared Burton to a minor league contract.

Burton allowed three runs over four relief innings with the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate before being cut loose. The soon-to-be 34-year-old held a 4.36 ERA out of the Twins' bullpen last season and is a decent depth addition.

Yankees transferred INF Brendan Ryan from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Jacob Lindgren. Ryan has been out all season with a strained calf.
May 24 - 3:58 PM

Yankees optioned RHP Branden Pinder to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The Yankees needed a fresh relief arm after Pinder threw three innings on Saturday. Jacob Lindgren has taken his spot in the bullpen.

Mariners second base prospect Tim Lopes extended his hitting streak to 14 games Saturday for High-A Bakersfield.

Lopes ended Richelson Pena's perfect game with a one-out single in the seventh inning. Even with the hitting streak, Lopes is still batting just .259 this month with no homers in 85 at-bats. The 20-year-old doesn't hit for power but he does have a decent set of wheels. Lopes has ten steals on 14 attempts this year.

Yonder Alonso (shoulder) is expected to begin a rehab assignment with High-A Lake Elsinore on Wednesday.

Padres manager Bud Black seemed pessimistic less than a week ago about Alonso's recovery from a bone bruise in his right shoulder, but the first baseman has apparently made great progress since then. He'll hit on the field on Monday. "I was able to go through my routine, I was able to hit some balls off the tee and hit some balls off front toss. Day by day, I'm increasing my load," he said. "I'm feeling good, responded well to [Friday's] work."
