Michael Saunders is out of Wednesday's lineup against the Rockies.
He's likely just getting a breather. Ezequiel Carrera will play left field and bat leadoff. Junior Lake will play right.
Russell Martin is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Rockies.
Not a surprise after how Tuesday's game played out. Josh Thole will start behind the plate and catch Aaron Sanchez.
Red Sox OF prospect Andrew Benintendi matched a career-high with four hits Tuesday in Double-A Portland's loss to Trenton.
He contributed a pair of doubles and two singles. The 21-year-old has found his stroke this month by hitting .316 with three homers and 16 RBI. He's been especially productive over his last five games with 10 hits in that span. Left field has been a revolving door for the Red Sox this season and there's a chance we could see Benintendi in Boston before the year is over.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Cuban infielder Yulieski Gurriel worked out for the Astros.
Rosenthal notes that Gurriel posted a picture on Instagram of him in an Astros hat, though this doesn't mean that a deal is imminent. The 32-year-old has also reportedly had workouts with the Dodgers and Mets in recent days. He'd likely require some time in the minors to shake the rust, but he could be a factor in the majors in the second half.
Indians RHP prospect Adam Plutko buckled down and threw seven scoreless frames Tuesday in a win for Triple-A Columbus.
He finished with five strikeouts and only one walk. The 24-year-old has made a seamless transition to Triple-A, winning two of his first three starts while providing a masterful 1.93 ERA. Opponents have hit just .182 over that span with 11 strikeouts in 66 at-bats. He's been a rock this year with 90 1/3 innings pitched over 16 outings. It's going to be tough for him to crack Cleveland's excellent starting rotation but Plutko might get a shot when rosters expand in September.
Mets 3B prospect David Thompson plated five runs Tuesday in a win for Low-A Columbia.
He sparked a late rally as the Fireflies stole a 10-9 victory from Hickory. Thompson was making his return from a pulled hamstring. Even after sitting out for two weeks, Thompson still leads the South Atlantic League with 54 RBI. He's also fourth in the league with 21 doubles in 56 contests. The 22-year-old should earn a promotion to High-A St. Lucie before the year is over.
Matt Wieters is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Padres.
He'll get some rest with the day game. Francisco Pena will start behind the dish and catch Yovani Gallardo.
Jason Castro is out of the Astros' starting lineup Wednesday against the Angels.
He'll get some rest with the day game after the night game. Evan Gattis will start behind the plate.
