Brian McCann admitted Thursday that tendinitis in his left knee is something he's dealt with "on and off for a while."

McCann felt his knee "flare up" in the third inning of Wednesday's game, but he stayed in and wound up homering twice. He was also in the lineup the next day for a day game after a night game. The ailment doesn't appear to be anything to be overly concerned about at this point. "I may not be flying around the bases, but I’ll be alright," said McCann. "It hasn’t flared up all year. It comes and goes. It flared up pretty bad in that long inning (Wednesday). It doesn’t restrict you from doing anything."

Ryan Hanigan (neck) could be activated from the disabled list Friday.

Hanigan has hit only .222/.348/.278 over six games on his rehab assignment, but he's feeling healthy and that's all the Red Sox are really concerned with. The club could option Christian Vazquez to Triple-A Pawtucket to make room for Hanigan.

Darren O'Day's (hamstring) next scheduled bullpen session is up in the air after he felt continued discomfort the last time he threw off a mound.

"We are just trying to take it slow and do it right, so I don’t feel it again," O’Day said. "There’s been days where I felt like I was ready for a game, and then two days later it wouldn't feel nearly as well. It’s tough. It’s right on the bone. There’s not a ton of blood supply, as far as I understand, so it takes a while to scar down and re-attach. And the way I pitch, I stress that area quite a bit." It had been looking like O'Day was near a return, but this sounds like a notable setback. We'll have to wait and see how he progresses, but the Orioles might not get him back before the All-Star break.

The Braves hope Williams Perez (shoulder) will be ready to rejoin the rotation around the All-Star break.

It's still very much up in the air, though, as Perez works his way back from a strained rotator cuff. The Braves were already hurting for rotation depth even before trading Bud Norris, so they're hoping Perez can hurry back as soon as possible. He's missed about three and a half weeks to this point.

Derek Wetmore of 1500ESPN.com reports that Miguel Sano (hamstring) has completed his rehab assignment and is on his way back to Minnesota.

Sano played in both games of a doubleheader for Triple-A Rochester on Thursday and apparently came out of it feeling fine. It's unclear whether he'll be activated Friday or if the Twins might hold off until Saturday so he can have a day of rest after playing two games Thursday, but either way his return is coming. Sano has batted .235/.341/.458 with 11 homers and 27 RBI this season.

Diamondbacks pitching prospect Yoan Lopez has left the Double-A Mobile team with the intention of quitting baseball.

General manager Dave Stewart said the club has convinced Lopez to hold off on a decision for the time being. The GM added that Lopez is dealing with "serious emotional issues," which he believes are related to all he went through in escaping from Cuba. The D'Backs signed Lopez for $8 million in January of 2015, which triggered another $8 million in penalties for exceeding their international spending cap. It's unclear how much of that money they might be able to recoup if Lopez retires, although it appears they're doing their best to talk him out of it. Lopez has posted a 4.89 ERA over 116 innings in pro ball.

Marlins transferred RHP Bryan Morris from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The Marlins needed an extra 40-man roster spot for the addition of Fernando Rodney. Morris might be done for the season following back surgery.

Pirates sent RHP Jorge Rondon outright to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Rondon cleared waivers after being designated for assignment. He's now off the 40-man roster but remains in the organization.
