Trevor May (back) will pitch on Saturday and Sunday for Triple-A Rochester before being re-evaluated.
It presumably will be the last hurdle for him to clear before he's activated. May has missed the last three weeks of action due to back spasms.
Miguel Sano (hamstring) will play both games of a doubleheader for Triple-A Rochester on Thursday.
He'll play third base in one game and serve as the designated hitter in the other. Sano has hit a couple home runs while on his rehab assignment but has just three hits in 19 at-bats overall. The Twins would like to see him look a bit better at the plate before activating him. "He’s hit a couple of homers. That’s been about the extent of his offensive output, which isn’t bad," manager Paul Molitor said. "I just think you look for signs that … his at-bats are normal. It’s not always results or a hot streak [you’re looking for] — you can just tell if he’s recognizing pitchers or doing what you’re accustomed to him doing."
Chad Green will be recalled to start on Sunday versus the Padres.
He's making a spot start, as the Yankees wanted to push CC Sabathia back a day to give him a little extra rest. Green has put up a 7.20 ERA in his brief time with the big club this season but boasts a 1.54 ERA with a strikeout per inning at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Deep leaguers might consider him as a streaming option in a juicy matchup.
CC Sabathia's next scheduled start has been pushed back a day to Monday against the White Sox.
They just wanted to give the big man a little extra rest after he allowed 11 runs over his last two outings. Chad Green will be recalled to make a spot start.
Jonathan Lucroy is absent from the Brewers' lineup Thursday.
He's getting a day off with it being a day game after a night game. Martin Maldonado is filling in behind the plate.
A Braves official told Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports that the club is "99.9 percent" sure they will not trade Julio Teheran before the deadline.
The 99.9 percent number came after the official said outright that the team is "not trading Teheran." That the Braves are inclined to keep Teheran isn't a surprise, as he's under control cheaply through 2020 and the club would like him to start on Opening Day next season in their new stadium. However, he'll be sought after next month, regardless (the Red Sox are one team that's reportedly already inquired), and the Braves will surely be open to a deal if they get an offer to their liking.
Starlin Castro is not in the Yankees' lineup Thursday.
It's a simple day off. Ronald Torreyes will handle second base.
Elvis Andrus is not in the Rangers' lineup Thursday.
It's a routine day off. Jurickson Profar will handle shortstop while Andrus rests.
