Joe Kelly (groin) will throw a bullpen session Friday.
It's his first time throwing off a mound since going down with a groin injury three weeks ago. Kelly will rejoin Triple-A Pawtucket's rotation when he's ready.
White Sox signed OF Tony Campana to a minor league contract.
Campana had been released by the Nationals after hitting only .225/.301/.242 at Triple-A Syracuse. The speedster might be used as a pinch-runner somewhere down the line.
Nationals manager Dusty Baker indicated Thursday that Stephen Strasburg (back) is unlikely to rejoin the rotation on Sunday against the Reds.
Baker didn't completely rule it out but said he's "more inclined not to rush him." Lucas Giolito pitched well in a rain-shortened major league debut, so the Nats can afford to give Strasburg a little more time. It does appear that he'll be back fairly soon, though.
Padres acquired RHP Chris Paddack from the Marlins in exchange for RHP Fernando Rodney.
Paddack has broken through this season with an absurd 0.95 ERA, 0.39 WHIP and 48/2 K/BB ratio over 28 1/3 Low-A innings. The 20-year-old is a nice get for an aging reliever.
Marlins acquired RHP Fernando Rodney from the Padres in exchange for RHP Chris Paddack.
Rodney has allowed only one earned run over 28 2/3 innings while sporting a 33/12 K/BB ratio out of the bullpen this season. With closer A.J. Ramos having yet to blow a save this season, Rodney presumably will slide into a setup role. Ryan Buchter is expected to be first in line for saves now in San Diego.
Caleb Cotham (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Pensacola on Thursday.
Cotham has been out all month with shoulder inflammation. He would appear to have a shot to make it back before the All-Star break.
Jason Heyward is not in the Cubs' lineup Thursday.
He's sitting out for the second straight day against a lefty. The Cubs have Ben Zobrist in right field, Matt Szczur in left, Albert Almora in center and Javier Baez at second base.
Curtis Granderson (calf) remained out of the Mets' lineup Thursday.
Granderson was able to pinch-hit Wednesday but apparently isn't ready to return to the lineup just yet. Brandon Nimmo is in right field and in the leadoff spot and Kelly Johnson is in left.
