Royals recalled INF Cheslor Cuthbert from Triple-A Omaha.
With Mike Moustakas hitting the bereavement list, the Royals needed infield depth and Cuthbert fit the bill. Once a decently rated prospect, Cuthbert was hitting .256/.318/.389 with eight homers and 33 RBI for Triple-A Omaha.
Royals placed 3B Mike Moustakas on the bereavement list.
Moustakas was removed from Sunday's game against the Twins due to a family emergency. The team subsequently placed him on the bereavement list. Owners should look elsewhere for production at the hot corner, at least for the time being.
Reds recalled OF Yorman Rodriguez from Triple-A Louisville.
Rodriguez was ranked as the No. 10 prospect in the Reds' system by Baseball America over the winter. An early cut from spring training this season, he hit .272/.310/.432 with nine homers and 40 RBI across 287 at-bats in Triple-A prior to the promotion.
Reds optioned RHP Josh Smith to Double-A Pensacola.
Smith made three starts for the Reds, surrendering 12 runs in 12 1/3 innings. He pitched to a 3.56 ERA and 1.25 WHIP for Triple-A Louisville, but is being sent down another level this time around. He might see spot duty again at another point this season, but the major league results have not been encouraging thus far.
Nationals placed RHP David Carpenter on the paternity leave list.
Sammy Solis will take Carpenter's place on the active roster for the time being. In 24 2/3 innings between the Yankees and Nationals this season, Carpenter is the owner of a 4.01 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. He'll return as soon as he's done celebrating the birth of his child.
Nationals recalled LHP Sammy Solis from Double-A Harrisburg.
This should just be a temporary stay for Solis. He's filling the vacated roster spot of David Carpenter, who was placed on the paternity leave list on Monday.
Marlins LHP prospect Adam Conley scattered two hits over seven shutout frames Sunday in a win for Triple-A New Orleans.
Both hits were singles. Conley is now 3-0 with a 1.13 ERA in his last four starts. He's punched out 18 hitters with nine walks over that span. The 25-year-old is second in the Pacific Coast League in wins (eight) and third in ERA (2.33). Conley tossed a scoreless inning for Miami in his major league debut earlier this season. He'll represent the PCL at the Triple-A All-Star Game in Omaha later this month.
Brewers recalled RHP Corey Knebel from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Knebel was called up with Matt Garza hitting the disabled list with a shoulder injury. He had just been optioned down on July 3. In 21 1/3 innings, he holds a 2.95 ERA to go with 19 strikeouts.
