Kolten Wong went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts on Thursday, dropping his average back down to .180.

We like Wong as a starter against right-handers, but if it's him versus Jedd Gyorko for one lineup spot, then Gyorko deserves the nod right now. Gyorko, though, has started just one of the last four games.

Asdrubal Cabrera went 0-for-6 in his return to the lineup on Thursday.

It's just the second time this season that he's failed to reach base safely after starting a game. Cabrera didn't play Wednesday because of a hamstring injury.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said SS Xander Bogaerts would be activated off the disabled list on Friday.

It's been a rapid recovery from a fractured ankle for Bogaerts, who played in just one rehab game with Triple-A Pawtucket. He was placed on the disabled list on April 9th and will make it back in less than three weeks. It's good news for his fantasy owners considering he was one of the hottest hitters in the league for the season's first two weeks. He returns to a .368/.400/.711 slash line with two homers and nine RBI in 40 plate appearances.

Twins optioned RHP Aaron Slegers to Triple-A Rochester.

He was just recalled earlier in the day. He spent one game with the Twins without seeing action before being sent back to the minors to make room for RHP David Hale, whom the team claimed off waivers from the Yankees. Slegers has a 2.00 ERA in three starts with Rochester this year. He pitched in four games for the Twins last season, recording a 6.46 ERA in 15 1/3 innings.

Hunter Pence will report to the Triple-A Sacramento Rivercats to begin a rehab assignment on Friday.

Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports reported the news. Pence was placed on the disabled list last Friday with a right thumb sprain. It looks like he could be back in action after the minimum stay on the DL, although the Giants might want him to spend a little extra time finding his stroke -- he is batting just .172/.197/.190 with zero homers and three RBI in 17 games this year.

Zach Britton threw a side session today with good results as he continued his rehab for a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Britton is still at least a month away from returning to the Orioles but it is a good sign to see him ramping up his throwing program. The team has struggled in the ninth inning, with Brad Brach and Darren O'Day sharing the closer role in Britton's absence.

David Peralta went 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBI and two walks in the Diamondbacks' 8-2 win over the Phillies on Thursday.

Peralta is batting .317 with three homers, 14 RBI and 13 runs scored in 20 games. He still has issues as a fantasy outfielder; he's not a big power or speed guy and he'll likely sit against lefties rather frequently after Steven Souza comes off the disabled list, but he's a very solid, underrated major leaguer.
Apr 26 - 4:56 PM

Matt Koch pitched six innings of two-run ball for his second win as a major leaguer Thursday against the Phillies.

Koch's previous win came in relief in 2016. He's pitched well in both of his starts this year, allowing a total of three runs in 12 innings. His fastball is lacking and getting through major league lineups three times an outing figures to prove to be an issue, but he's giving the Diamondbacks a lift right now. He'll get the Dodgers next.
