Yankees recalled outfielder Ramon Flores from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Flores is taking over for Slade Heathcott on the Yankees bench, where he should offer a better bat but also a lesser glove. The 23-year-old was batting .294/.389/.425 in Triple-A. Since he's not an option in center, he probably won't get enough playing time to be of use in AL-only leagues.

Despite reports to the contrary earlier this week, free agent Grant Balfour said he is not considering retirement.

According to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, Balfour is exploring his options after being released by the Rays from his minor league contract. He hopes to get back to the majors later this summer.

Free agent Rafael Soriano, armed with a new agent, said he's been working out and will be ready to pitch whenever he signs with a club.

Soriano now comes with new representation after failing to find a deal under the Scott Boras umbrella. The Cubs are believed to be interested in him. He indicated that he'd be fine with a role other than closing.

Dalton Pompey went 1-for-4 Friday in his return to Triple-A Buffalo's starting lineup.

Pompey, who was sent down on May 1, had missed the last 10 days because of a hyperextended knee. He's hitting just .203/.286/.217 in 17 games for Buffalo.

Devon Travis won't play for Triple-A Buffalo today because of soreness in his left shoulder.

It's a setback for Travis, who was originally expected to come off the disabled list on Monday. That hardly seems likely to happen now.

Bryce Harper was scratched from Saturday's lineup after being hit in the back by a pitch during Friday's game.

It's the first time this season he's been held out of the lineup. Michael Taylor is starting in his place today, with Clint Robinson moving from left field to right.

Brandon Phillips is back at second base for Saturday's game versus the Nationals.

Phillips hadn't played since Monday because of turf toe.

Nationals placed RHP Stephen Strasburg on the 15-day disabled list with neck tightness.

A 15-day break certainly can't hurt Strasburg after the roughest patch he's dealt with as a pro. Considering that the Nats are labeling this tightness, as opposed to even a strain or something worse, it doesn't figure that he'll be out for long. A.J. Cole and Taylor Jordan should be the top candidates to replace him in the rotation. It might come down to whether Jordan is needed in the pen before Strasburg's turn comes up.
