Yankees prospect right-hander James Kaprielian was diagnosed with a flexor tendon strain in his right elbow.

That certainly isn't encouraging news for one of the top prospects in the Yankees' system. He'll now visit Dr. Neal ElAttrache who will determine the next course of action. Kaprielian was the 16th overall selection by the Yankees in the 2015 draft.

Twins general manager Terry Ryan announced Tuesday that Phil Hughes will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery on July 6.

The Twins had been hopeful that he would be able to return late in the season from a compression fracture above his left knee, but Hughes was also dealing with shoulder pain. Further evaluation showed he was dealing with thoracic outlet syndrome and he'll need to have a rib removed to alleviate the pain. He's expected to be ready to go for the start of the 2017 season.

Astros manager A.J. Hinch announced Tuesday that Lance McCullers will return to the Astros starting rotation on Monday.

He'll miss just one start due to his blister issue, but owners who used him in weekly leagues this week will end up with a zero. Scott Feldman will be relegated back to bullpen duty upon his return.

Daniel Mengden will have his next start pushed back until Sunday to accommodate Rich Hill's return to the A's rotation.

That makes it sound as though Mengden will be keeping his spot in the starting rotation even after Hill's return. He'll square off against Francisco Liriano and the Pirates on Sunday in Oakland.

Julio Teheran will have his next start pushed back a day to Friday against the Marlins.

There is nothing wrong with the Braves' ace right-hander, they simply wanted to get him an extra day of rest while accommodating a potential return to the rotation for Mike Foltynewicz. Teheran owns a spectacular 2.46 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 99/24 K/BB ratio across 106 innings on the season.

Tyson Ross (shoulder) is scheduled to throw another bullpen session this week and if all goes well he'll progress to live batting practice over the weekend.

Ross has been sidelined since early April due to inflammation in his pitching shoulder. He is finally making tangible strides toward a return to the Padres rotation, and barring any setbacks he should return around the All-Star break.

Carlos Beltran was removed from Tuesday's game against the Rangers with a tight right hamstring.

He'll head for a precautionary MRI to determine the extent of the damage. The Yankees can't afford to have his bat out of the lineup long, as the veteran slugger is hitting .297/.336/.570 with 19 homers and 53 RBI in a resurgent season.
Jun 28 - 8:25 PM

Rich Hill (groin) said Tuesday that he's ready to return to the Athletics rotation on Saturday against the Pirates.

Hill struck out six batters over three-plus innings in a rehab start with High-A Stockton on Monday. After a brilliant stat to the season, he has been sidelined since May 30 with his groin issue. He'll return to a stellar 2.25 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 74/24 K/BB ratio in 64 innings of work.
