Miguel Cabrera went 2-for-2 with a homer and three RBI to lead the Tigers past the Orioles 6-4 on Thursday.

With Cabrera and Victor Martinez back, the Tigers essentially went with their starting lineup today. The only likely exception was that Rajai Davis was leading off against a right-hander. He'll probably have that spot versus lefties, but Anthony Gose should be there against righties during the regular season. Cabrera is 4-for-10 with four strikeouts since returning to Detroit's lineup Sunday. He's played first base the last two days.

Joe Nathan broke a thumbnail in his outing Thursday afternoon against the Orioles.

Nathan was making back-to-back appearances for the first time this spring. He allowed a home run to Jayson Nix but retired the other two batters he faced. The veteran closer has a 5.79 ERA in 8 1/3 innings this spring and looks like an unreliable fantasy option for the 2015 season. Joakim Soria is next in line for saves in Detroit.
Mar 26 - 3:57 PM

David Price yielded three runs in 6 2/3 innings Thursday against the Orioles.

Price struck out seven and walked none. He allowed three hits, but they were bunched together, resulting in three runs in the fourth inning.
Mar 26 - 3:56 PM

Pitching for the second straight day, Joe Nathan gave up a homer to one of the three batters he faced Thursday the Orioles.

Nathan was consistently in the low-90s yesterday, but going back-to-back for the first time this spring, he was in the high-80s today. Jayson Nix took him deep on a poor slider, and though he did retire the other two Orioles he faced, it was his second most discouraging outing of the spring.
Mar 26 - 3:56 PM

After Joe Nathan gave up a homer, Joakim Soria pitched a perfect inning for a save against the Orioles on Thursday.

Soria has been Detroit's best reliever this month, allowing just one hit over seven scoreless innings. The Tigers certainly have to be giving some consideration to using him in the closer's role, though that would probably mean writing off Nathan entirely. Nathan in the ninth and Soria in the eighth is a legitimate option, but if Soria works the ninth, Nathan might not even be on the team. For that reason, it still seems likely Tigers will give Nathan the first few weeks of the season to see what happens.

Sean Burnett (elbow) is expected to begin throwing for interested teams in late May or early June.

Burnett underwent the second Tommy John surgery of his career last June and probably won't be able to pitch in live games until the second half of the 2015 season. The 32-year-old left-hander hasn't been an effective major league reliever since 2012.
Mar 26 - 3:51 PM

Kevin Gausman threw just one inning against the Tigers on Thursday and gave up a two-run homer.

Gausman came in for the eighth, and he would have pitched the bottom of the ninth as well, except the game was over. We're assuming this was just about rearranging Gausman's schedule a bit. Even though the Orioles have six starters with Ubaldo Jimenez throwing better, Gausman is likely to be a part of the rotation.
Mar 26 - 3:51 PM

Victor Martinez homered off the Orioles' Kevin Gausman in Thursday's win.

Martinez was playing for the second straight day and making his third start at DH since returning from knee surgery last week. He's 2-for-10.
