Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Wednesday that Shohei Ohtani now has a callus where his blister was.

That's a good sign that this won't become a lingering thing. Ohtani has struggled in his last two starts, but he's faced two of the top lineups in the league in the Astros and Red Sox. The two-way star is lined up to face the Orioles at home in his next pitching appearance.

Pirates recalled OF/INF Jose Osuna from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Osuna will act as the 26th man for the second half of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Tigers before heading back to Indy on Thursday. He's batting .333/.404/.533 in 52 plate appearances this season at Triple-A.
Apr 25 - 12:20 PM

Daniel Palka is at DH and batting sixth for the White Sox on Wednesday afternoon against the Mariners.

It will be the 26-year-old's major league debut. Palka has posted intriguing offensive numbers in the minors but probably won't carry meaningful value in mixed fantasy leagues during this stint with Chicago.

Tigers recalled RHP Artie Lewicki from Triple-A Toledo.

Lewicki will serve as the 26th man in Wednesday's doubleheader against the Pirates, working in a long relief role. The 26-year-old right-hander posted a 6.10 ERA over his first 10 1/3 major league innings last season. He has a 5.79 ERA through 14 innings (three starts) this year at the Triple-A level.

Elieser Hernandez (finger) allowed three earned runs over four innings Tuesday in a rehab game at High-A Jupiter.

He threw 77 pitches, yielding five hits and two walks while striking out three. Hernandez landed on the disabled list at the end of spring training following a dental procedure and then had to halt his rehab assignment earlier this month after cracking a fingernail. The Rule 5 Draft pick figures to join the Marlins' active roster in some kind of role (rotation or long relief) by mid-May.
Apr 25 - 10:42 AM

Dan Straily (forearm) threw 88 pitches over 5 1/3 innings Tuesday in a rehab start with Double-A Jacksonville.

Straily allowed four runs -- three earned -- but he struck out six batters and only issued one walk. He could make his season debut this weekend, though nothing is official yet. "The biggest things with the guys out on rehabs is making sure that they are bouncing back the next day, so we'll see where he is (Wednesday)," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said Tuesday. Straily landed on the disabled list at the end of spring training with inflammation in his right forearm.
Apr 25 - 9:48 AM

Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) threw a successful 25-pitch bullpen session Tuesday at Tropicana Field.

Eovaldi has made a rather swift recovery from late-March arthroscopic elbow surgery. "Pretty remarkable, but knowing him not surprising," Rays manager Kevin Cash said Tuesday evening. "That's great. We've got to do a good job of managing him simply because he's so eager to get back, and he puts a lot of pressure on himself and his rehab." Eovaldi could feasibly join the Tampa Bay rotation around late May or early June, though perhaps the brakes should be pumped a bit for a guy who has required several elbow procedures in his career -- including two Tommy John surgeries.
Apr 25 - 9:11 AM

Matt Duffy (hamstring) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday.

Duffy had what manager Kevin Cash called "a really good workday" on Tuesday and he is scheduled to play in a simulated game Wednesday at the Rays' spring training complex in Port Charlotte. Assuming that goes smoothly, he will then appear in one or two minor league rehab games, either at High-A Charlotte or Triple-A Durham. The 27-year-old third baseman should be ready to come off the 10-day disabled list sometime this weekend.
