J.D. Martinez blasted his fifth home run of the season in a losing effort against the White Sox on Saturday.

He took Chris Sale out to the opposite field for the solo shot in the fourth inning, the fourth time this season that Martinez has homered to right field. He finished the day 1-for-4 and is now hitting .255/.271/.596 with the five long balls and 10 RBI on the season.

Anibal Sanchez was absolutely annihilated in Saturday's loss to the White Sox, surrendering nine runs on nine hits over 3 1/3 innings of work.

Sanchez walked two and struck out two on the afternoon. Most of the damage came on during a seven-run fourth inning, highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Jose Abreu. It was the second straight rough outing for the right-hander who was knocked around by the Pirates his last time out. He has been the lone weak link in what has been a superb rotation for the Tigers in the early part of the season. He'll look to turn things around on Thursday against the Yankees.
Apr 18 - 4:16 PM

Josh Donaldson blasted a walk off home run leading off the tenth inning on Saturday, propelling the Blue Jays to a 6-5 victory over the Braves.

Donaldson belted his first two homers of the season on Friday and carried that power surge right over through Saturday's contest. He finished the afternoon 3-for-4 and also scored a pair of runs, and is now hitting an impressive .340/.396/.596 with 10 RBI on the year.
Apr 18 - 4:15 PM

Billy Hamilton left Saturday's game against the Cardinals with an apparent injury.

Hamilton legged out an infield single in the top of the eighth inning but had to leap over Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams and landed awkwardly. It looked like it might have been a groin strain. There should be an update from the Reds within the hour.
Apr 18 - 4:15 PM

R.A. Dickey pitched decently in a no-deision against the Braves on Saturday, allowing four runs on four hits over his seven innings of work.

The veteran right-hander racked up six strikeouts on the afternoon while issuing four free passes. He also gave up a pair of homers, with Freddie Freeman and A.J. Pierzynski each taking him deep. Dickey will carry a 3.26 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 16/12 K/BB ratio into his next start against the Rays in Tampa Bay on Friday where he'll again search for his first victory.
Apr 18 - 4:05 PM

Freddie Freeman homered for the second consecutive game in a losing effort against the Blue Jays on Saturday.

Freeman entered with terrific lifetime numbers against knuckleballer R.A. Dickey and delivered a two-run bomb off the veteran right-hander in the third inning. Freeman finished the day 2-for-4 and is now hitting .256/.319/.581 with four long balls and eight RBI on the season.
Apr 18 - 4:02 PM

Alex Wood posted a quality start in a no-decision against the Blue Jays on Saturday, allowing three runs on nine hits over 6 2/3 innings of work.

Wood walked two and failed to record a strikeout in the ballgame. All of the damage against him came on a three-run uprising before he was chased in the seventh. Wood has struggled in the early going, registering a 3.93 ERA and 1.58 WHIP through his first three starts. He'll hope for better results when he takes on the Phillies in Philadelphia on Friday.

Red Sox signed RHP Denny Bautista to a minor league contract.

The 32-year-old hurler hasn't pitched in the big leagues since he was a member of the Giants during the 2010 season. He should be considered a long-shot to make an impact with the Red Sox this season.
