Madison Bumgarner will start the Giants' Cactus League opener against the Athletics on Tuesday.

The World Series MVP will head back to work, looking to improve upon a terrific 2014 campaign where he posted an 18-10 record, 2.98 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 219/43 K/BB ratio over 217 1/3 innings. While the large workload that he shouldered in the postseason is mildly concerning, the 25-year-old hurler should still be one of the top seven starting pitchers selected in fantasy drafts.

Mike Pelfrey (elbow) threw to live hitters for the first time on Saturday since undergoing elbow surgery in May.

The veteran right-hander came away from the session feeling great and he was pleased with his overall ability to locate pitches. While he's in camp competing for a spot in the Twins' Opening Day rotation, he has indicated that he's also open to the idea of pitching out of the bullpen.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy announced Saturday that Matt Cain's Cactus League debut would be pushed back a couple of weeks.

That means Cain won't toe the slab in game action until at least March 10. There have been no setbacks in his recovery from elbow surgery, the Giants simply don't want to rush him. He remains on track to be ready for the start of the regular season.

Trevor Plouffe missed Saturday's workout due to illness.

Plouffe attended the team's morning meeting before being sent home. He'll probably take it easy for a couple of days, but it certainly isn't anything that will impact his availability for the start of the regular season.

Aaron Brooks will start the Royals Cactus League opener against the Rangers on Wednesday.

With all of the available spots in the Royals rotation already spoken for, Brooks is likely slated to begin the 2014 season in the rotation at Triple-A Omaha. The 24-year-old struggled in his lone start with the Royals in 2014, surrendering seven runs in 2/3 of an inning.

Coco Crisp has been sidelined early in Athletics camp as he's dealing with a case of pink eye.

Crisp experienced the same issue during the 2012 season where he was forced to miss more than a week of action. While it won't impact his availability for the start of the regular season, it serves as a reminder to the fragility of the veteran outfielder. He has averaged just 118 games per season during his five years in Oakland.
Feb 28 - 1:20 PM

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly announced Saturday that Clayton Kershaw will make his Cactus League debut on Thursday against the White Sox.

The reigning National League MVP and Cy Young winner is coming off an unbelievable 2014 campaign where he went 21-3 with a 1.77 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 239/31 K/BB ratio over 198 1/3 innings. He should be the first starting pitcher drafted in all fantasy formats, and one of the first names called overall.

The White Sox announced Saturday that Chris Sale suffered an avulsion fracture on his right foot in an accident at his home on Friday.

The early diagnosis is that he's expected to miss three weeks. While it sounds that he avoided a significant injury, it could put his availability for Opening Day in jeopardy. The team will wait for the swelling to subside before determining his status.
