Cesar Valdez is expected to start Tuesday against the Athletics.

Jul 22 - 9:05 PM

Athletics manager Bob Melvin said there's a "good chance" Chad Pinder (hamstring) will join the team on its upcoming homestand.

Jose Abreu took grounders at third base before Saturday's game.

The Red Sox are expected to activate Josh Rutledge (concussion) from the disabled list on Monday.

Manager John Farrell insinuated that the Red Sox would likely send down a reliever to make room for him. Rutledge seems to be over his concussion and began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday. He'll split time at third base with Brock Holt and Deven Marrero, though the Red Sox are likely to upgrade that position at the trade deadline. A .258 career hitter with very little power, Rutledge carries no fantasy relevance.

Brandon McCarthy will test his blister during Sunday's bullpen session.

Blister issues hampered McCarthy in his last start Thursday against the Braves but he's hoping it's nothing major. If everything checks out on Sunday, he should get the nod Tuesday against Minnesota. If the blister is still bugging him, the Dodgers would likely pivot to Kenta Maeda.

Josh Osich got the last five outs of the ballgame -- three via the strikeout -- and earned a win as his team beat the Padres 5-4 in extra innings on Saturday.

He was called upon to get the last two outs of the 11th inning and stayed in the game to work the 12th in scoreless fashion as well. He struck out three batters and the only baserunner he allowed came when he beaned Matt Szczur. Osich has been a steady middle reliever this season despite an elevated walk rate. He has a 3.77 ERA with 32 strikeouts and 16 walks in 31 innings.

Eduardo Nunez went 3-for-5 and drove in two runs in a win over the Padres on Saturday.

He also worked a walk in the long ballgame. He came to the plate with the bases loaded in the fourth inning and singled to plate two runs. The third baseman missed some time recently with a hamstring injury and has been mentioned in trade rumors of late. His 17 stolen bases are his best fantasy asset. He has a .299 batting average with four homers, 35 runs and 29 RBI in 73 games.

Matt Moore surrendered four runs in six innings and came away without a decision against the Padres on Saturday.

It has been a rough season for the former elite prospect, but he pitched well today except for one bad inning. All four runs he allowed came home in the fourth frame. It started with a solo home run off the bat of Wil Myers, followed by three singles and then a triple by opposing pitcher Luis Perdomo. On the good side, Moore was able to punch out seven batters without issuing a base-on-balls in the contest. He owns a dreadful 3-10 record and a 5.82 ERA. Coming into today's game he had a 4.20 ERA at home and a 7.61 ERA on the road this year.
