Corey Dickerson compiled three hits Wednesday in the Pirates’ loss to Detroit.

He finished the afternoon with a double, two singles and two runs scored. Dickerson is still sitting on one homer, but he’s been plenty productive with eight doubles, 12 RBI and a .321 average for the Bucs. Wednesday marked his eighth multi-hit game of the year.

Francisco Cervelli drove in six of the Pirates’ 10 runs Wednesday in a loss to the Tigers.

He reached in four of his five plate appearances, contributing a walk, two singles, a double, a home run and one run scored. Cervelli’s home run was of the three-run variety and came in the third inning off Tigers starter Jordan Zimmermann. He also committed a throwing error but we’re sure Cervelli’s fantasy owners aren’t complaining about his afternoon. Cervelli is now tied with Gary Sanchez for the MLB lead among catchers with 18 RBI.

Jameson Taillon was tagged for seven runs on 10 hits over 3 2/3 innings Wednesday in the Pirates’ loss to the Tigers.

He fanned three while throwing 57 of his 75 pitches for strikes. Taillon was a disaster on Wednesday, letting up two runs in the first, one in the third and four in the fourth. Five of the 10 hits he allowed went for extra bases including home runs to Leonys Martin and James McCann. The right-hander has seen his ERA rise from 0.89 to 4.91 over his last two starts. He’ll look for better results when he takes the mound Tuesday at Washington.
Apr 25 - 8:20 PM

Nicholas Castellanos exploded for four hits Wednesday in Detroit’s win over the Pirates.

The Tigers sure didn’t pace themselves, exploding for 13 runs on 20 hits in the first game of their doubleheader against Pittsburgh. Castellanos reached in five of his six plate appearances in Game 1, collecting a walk, a home run and three singles while scoring twice. He’s gone berserk over his last three games, contributing 10 hits, four runs scored, two homers and nine RBI during that span. His .337 average this year is good for eighth-highest in the American League.
Apr 25 - 8:19 PM

Miguel Cabrera collected four hits Wednesday in the Tigers’ win over Pittsburgh.

Cabrera provided four of Detroit’s 20 hits in a 13-10 slugfest. His afternoon included a single, three doubles, three runs scored and two RBI. Cabrera has erupted over his last seven games, batting .520 with seven RBI during that span. His .329 average for the year ranks 10th-best in the American League.
Apr 25 - 8:18 PM

Jeimer Candelario scored five times while going 3-for-5 Wednesday in the Tigers’ 13-10 win over the Pirates.

Candelario doubled, singled and homered while also reaching base on a fielder’s choice and a throwing error. His lone RBI came in the sixth inning when he launched a solo shot to right field off Pirates reliever Edgar Santana. That was one of four home runs hit by the Tigers on Wednesday. Candelario is beginning his first full season in the big leagues but you wouldn’t know it by the way he’s been hitting. He’s hit .292 in the early going with four round-trippers, six doubles and 11 RBI.
Apr 25 - 8:17 PM

Jordan Zimmermann let up six hits and six runs (three earned) over three innings Wednesday in the Tigers’ win over the Pirates.

Zimmermann struck out four and walked one over 66 pitches. Pitching the first game of a double-header, Zimmermann did the Tigers’ bullpen no favors by delivering one of his shortest starts of the season. The right-hander was done in by the long ball, allowing home runs to Colin Moran and Francisco Cervelli before exiting. Zimmermann has been an absolute train wreck this year, delivering a nauseating 7.91 ERA through his first five starts. The right-hander hasn’t been the same since leaving the Nationals three years ago and may not be long for the starting rotation if this keeps up.
Apr 25 - 8:15 PM

Pablo Sandoval supplied two hits Wednesday in the Giants’ loss to the Nationals.

He reached in three of his four plate appearances with a single, a walk and an RBI double. That double came in the sixth inning off three-time Cy Young winner Max Scherzer. This was a rare start for Sandoval, who has spent much of the year backing up Evan Longoria at third base. Panda owns a .242 average with 12 strikeouts in 33 at-bats this season.
