Packers second-year WR Jeff Janis is behind rookie Ty Montgomery because Janis "hasn't fully won over his quarterback yet."

Trust is critical between pass catchers and their quarterbacks. Aaron Rodgers apparently doesn't yet trust Janis enough for him to have a significant role in Green Bay's offense. "Jeff will have some great days and some days where mentally he's making too many mistakes," Rodgers said. "The talent and athleticism is there. We just need to see from all those guys battling for those two spots just some more consistency." Janis has a higher ceiling than Montgomery, but needs to start climbing the depth chart to make any 2015 fantasy noise.

Third-round pick Ty Montgomery is still considered to have the "upper hand" for Green Bay's No. 3 receiver job.

Playing outside at Z receiver, Montgomery is coming off a third preseason game where he posted a 2-71 receiving line working in three-wide sets alongside Randall Cobb and Davante Adams. Montgomery is very clearly ahead of Jeff Janis, who "hasn't fully won over" Aaron Rodgers. Montgomery is a worthy late-round flyer in re-draft leagues, with an up arrow on his Dynasty value.

ESPN Jaguars reporter Michael DiRocco attributes Blake Bortles’s strong preseason to improved mechanics.

Bortles had major accuracy and pocket-presence issues as a rookie, throwing 17 interceptions and taking a league-high 55 sacks. His improved footwork has led to a 65 percent completion-rate and only two sacks in three preseason games. A second-year leap from Bortles would be an upgrade for Allen Robinson and T.J. Yeldon.

Free agent NT Phil Taylor visited with the Steelers.

It's Taylor's first visit since getting cut by the Browns. As many as eight teams have reportedly expressed interest in signing him. 27-year-old Taylor should resurface before the end of the week.

Brandon Browner (leg) has returned to practice.

Browner was sidelined the last three weeks, but has been cleared for individual drills. It’s good news for the Saints, who will be without Keenan Lewis for 4-6 weeks. Delvin Breaux, Stanley Jean-Baptiste, and Damian Swann will open the year in expanded roles opposite Browner.

Drew Brees said he has "a great comfort level" with Brandon Coleman.

Coleman started the third preseason game over Marques Colston, relegating Colston to the slot in three-wide sets. His exact role in the Saints offense remains to be seen, but Coleman projects as the No. 2 option behind Brandin Cooks. Coleman should be drafted as a WR4/5.

Coach Jack Del Rio said LB Sio Moore is "competing to be a role player somewhere."

Moore missed the entire offseason and most of training camp recovering from hip surgery and an undisclosed injury. He’s been passed on the depth chart by Malcolm Smith. Moore started 22 games his first two seasons, but isn’t guaranteed a spot on the 53-man roster.

Raiders signed ILB Lorenzo Alexander.

Alexander was part of Arizona's first-round cuts. He'll add veteran depth behind Curtis Lofton and Malcolm Smith. A special teams standout, Alexander's signing is a threat to Sio Moore's roster spot.
