Mike Montgomery will start Monday versus the Pirates.

He's taking Yu Darvish's (triceps) spot in the rotation, at least for one turn. Montgomery has been a valuable swingman for the Cubs the last couple seasons but has struggled this year, posting a 5.33 ERA and 15/10 K/BB ratio over 25 1/3 innings. He can't be trusted as a streamer.

Brett Anderson (shoulder) remains shut down.

Anderson landed on the disabled list a little over a week ago with a left shoulder strain and doesn't appear to have made much progress. He's out indefinitely.
May 27 - 3:19 PM

Andrew Triggs (arm) is expected to resume a throwing program soon.

Triggs landed on the disabled list earlier this month with nerve irritation in his right arm, but he's feeling better. It's obviously still going to be a while before he'll be able to rejoin the A's rotation.

Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that Joe Mauer (concussion) being activated from the disabled list on Thursday is looking "increasingly likely."

Great to hear. Mauer was placed on the 7-day concussion DL a little over a week ago, but he's feeling much better and will hit in the batting cage again Sunday. If that goes well, he'll work out on the field Monday. Mauer has put up a .283/.404/.355 batting line with one home run over 38 games for the Twins this season.

Ronald Acuna was lifted from Sunday's game against the Red Sox with a left knee injury.

Acuna looked to hyperextend his knee after crossing first base, flipped over and went down in pain. He was able to walk off the field on his own, which would seem to be a good sign, but he did have a noticeable limp. Acuna is surely headed for tests and an update on his condition should be available later Sunday.

Mets assistant general manager John Ricco said Sunday that no decision has been made yet on whether Jason Vargas will make his next scheduled start.

Vargas was pounded for five runs over three innings against the Brewers on Saturday and now holds a 10.62 ERA over his first five outings for the Mets. Manager Mickey Callaway indicated after Saturday's start that Vargas would remain on turn for his next outing, but Ricco said "no decisions have been made yet." Seth Lugo would be a candidate to replace Vargas in the Mets' rotation.

Clayton Kershaw (biceps) is expected to rejoin the Dodgers' rotation on Thursday against the Phillies.

Manager Dave Roberts would only say that Kershaw was a "viable" option to start Thursday, but it sounds like he'll return that day unless he has some sort of setback. Kershaw threw four innings in a simulated game Saturday and figures to throw a bullpen session Tuesday ahead of Thursday's start. The three-time Cy Young winner has been out since early May with left biceps tendinitis.

Twins acquired C Janigson Villalobos from the Padres for RHP Phil Hughes, cash and the 74th overall pick in the 2018 Draft.

Villalobos is a 21-year-old catching prospect who hasn't advanced past rookie ball yet. He was not listed by MLB.com among the Padres' top 30 prospects.
