Kyle Hendricks gave up four runs over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Reds on Thursday.

Hendricks cruised through five innings with minimal issues, but the sixth spelled trouble and ended up spelling his doom. It was his control that betrayed him, as he issued three walks -- including a run-scoring walk to Eugenio Suarez -- and a Jesse Winker grand slam after he exited saddled Hendricks with three more earned runs against. It was a poor ending to a decent start, and the loss was the fourth in the last five decisions for the 28-year-old. Through 15 starts, he's now 5-7 with a 3.73 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. The Dodgers present another challenge for Hendricks when the two sides meet Tuesday.

Jared Hughes got four outs in Thursday's game, closing out the Cubs to earn his fifth save of the season.

Hughes was called on to defuse a jam in the eighth inning, striking out Albert Almora Jr. with two runners on to end the threat, and he stayed in to pitch the ninth with the Reds holding a four-run lead. Hughes filled in for Raisel Iglesias when the closer was injured but he has served in a setup role when Iglesias is healthy, as he is now. When that's the case, Hughes' fantasy value is nil, but he's worth keeping in mind should Iglesias hit the DL again at any point.

Aaron Sanchez left Thursday's start against the Angels with a right index finger contusion.

Long man Joe Biagini entered the game in place of Sanchez, who lasted only 25 pitches. Sanchez struggled in his lone inning of work, allowing two hits, a walk and two earned runs. The injury didn't seem to affect his velocity as Sanchez averaged 94.7 mph on his fastball, which is actually above his season average of 93.7 mph. He went for X-rays, which came back negative. Until we hear more, consider Sanchez day-to-day.

Juan Soto hit a go-ahead, two-run double in the eighth inning to lead the Nationals to a 4-2 win over the Orioles on Thursday.

Mychal Givens, in his second inning of work, allowed a Bryce Harper double and a Trea Turner single before Soto stepped to the dish with one out. The 19-year-old then slapped an opposite-field double into the gap to plate both. Soto continues to impress and hold his own through 28 games in the bigs, batting .326/.426/.598 with six homers, 16 RBI and 18 runs scored. He's not going anywhere any time soon.

Colby Rasmus hit his first home run of the season in a loss to the Nationals on Thursday.

In his first game back from the 60-day disabled list, Raz greeted Nationals ace Max Scherzer with a solo shot in the second inning. It was his only hit in three at-bats. Rasmus missed more than two months with a left hip flexor strain but should find his way into the lineup on a fairly regular basis now that he's back. He could find some value in AL-only leagues but nothing more.

Anthony Rendon hit his seventh home run of the season in Thursday's win over the Orioles.

The Nats trailed in the sixth inning when Rendon caught a hanging Kevin Gausman curve and blasted it over the left-center field boards to knot the game at 2-2. The homer was Rendon's only hit in four at-bats in the game. He's now got seven homers, 28 RBI and 27 runs scored in 53 games this year, batting a healthy .282/.357/.480 overall.

Bryan Mitchell's MRI revealed tendinitis in his right elbow.

The MRI also showed swelling in the flexor area of his forearm. Fortunately, Mitchell was able to avoid ligament damage. Mitchell will rest up for a few days before joining the team in Texas next week. The Padres are optimistic he'll be able to resume playing catch while in Texas.

Trey Mancini was unavailable for Thursday's game against the Nationals due to a stiff neck.

However, manager Buck Showalter hopes to have him back for Friday's series opener in Atlanta. Mancini has slumped this month, batting just .180 with 24 strikeouts over 61 June at-bats.
