Pirates designated RHP Vance Worley for assignment.

The move opens a roster spot for Joe Blanton, who was acquired from the Royals late Wednesday night. Worley, 27, had a 3.78 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and 47/19 K/BB ratio in 69 innings (eight starts, 12 relief appearances) this season for the Pirates. He is sure to draw some interest on waivers.

Todd Frazier is not in the Reds' starting lineup on Thursday night against the Pirates.

It's just a day of rest for the star third baseman. Ivan DeJesus Jr. will handle the hot corner.

Ryan Zimmerman's solo home run in the second inning of Thursday afternoon's win over the Marlins would be the only run either team scored in the game.

Zimmerman took a Dan Haren offering for a ride in the second inning. Little did he know, that would be the only run scored in the game. Max Scherzer made sure it stood up, as the Nationals improved to 54-46 with the win. The slugger was just recently activated from the disabled list after missing over a month and a half with plantar fasciitis of the left foot. He's hitting .216/.272/.369 with six homers and 35 RBI over 222 at-bats. If he's healthy, those numbers should rise, but betting on Zimmerman's health is always a risky proposition.

Daniel Norris will make his Tigers debut on Sunday afternoon against the Orioles.

Norris was acquired from the Blue Jays on Thursday in the four-player David Price trade. He is a very well-regarded young pitching prospect and should do well with the move from Rogers Centre to Comerica Park (though his debut Sunday will be at Camden Yards). Give the 22-year-old a boost in stock in mixed fantasy leagues.
Jul 30 - 3:24 PM

Marlins acquired RHP Victor Araujo from the Dodgers in the three-team, 13-player Mat Latos trade.

Araujo joins fellow minor league pitchers Jeff Brigham and Kevin Guzman in moving from the Dodgers to the Marlins. Araujo, a 22-year-old Dominican right-hander, is sporting an underwhelming 5.40 ERA in 50 innings this season at High-A. Though he has missed bats pretty consistently throughout his minor league career. There seems to be some upside here for the Fish.
Jul 30 - 3:22 PM

Jonathan Papelbon tossed a scoreless ninth in Thursday afternoon's 1-0 win over the Marlins, locking down his first save since being traded from the Phillies on June 28.

Everything went according to plan. Former closer Drew Storen entered in the eighth inning and struck out two of the three batters he faced, then handed the 1-0 lead over to Papelbon, who worked a scoreless final frame while striking out one. Storen might not be happy about losing his job, but if he can set aside his personal feelings, the Nationals' new combination for the eighth and ninth could be lethal. Prior to the trade, Paps was pitching to a 1.59 ERA and 40/8 K/BB ratio over 39 2/3 innings. He's now a perfect 18-for-18 in save chances between his two teams.
Jul 30 - 3:17 PM

Ichiro Suzuki went 0-for-3 with a walk in Thursday afternoon's loss to the Nationals.

Ichiro--and the Marlins in general--couldn't do much of anything against Nationals starter Max Scherzer on Thursday. The 0-for-3 dropped the veteran outfielder's season-slash to an unimpressive .246/.300/.289. He's amassed just five extra-base hits to this point.
Jul 30 - 3:13 PM

Reds recalled RHP Keyvius Sampson from Triple-A Louisville.

Sampson has registered a 3.38 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, and 74/46 K/BB ratio in 82 2/3 innings this season between Double-A and Triple-A. He is obviously not fantasy relevant.
