Anthony Rendon (knee) said that he felt good after his first minor league rehab game with Double-A Harrisburg on Friday.

Rendon went 1-for-2 with a double and played five innings defensively at third base. He's scheduled to play seven innings on Saturday and then nine innings on Monday after an off-day Sunday. Barring any setbacks, he should rejoin the Nationals for their four-game series against the Mets in New York.

Jay Bruce - OF - Reds

Jay Bruce is not in the Reds starting lineup for Saturday afternoon's contest against the Cubs.

It's just a day of rest for the struggling outfielder who is hitting just .164/.261/.328 with three homers and nine RBI on the year. Brennan Boesch is getting the start in his place and batting fifth against opposing right-hander Jake Arrieta.

Saturday's game between the White Sox and Royals has been postponed due to rain.

Reds released 1B Dan Johnson.

The 35-year-old failed to earn a spot on the Astros Opening Day bench, then hit .069 (2-for-29) in his nine games at Triple-A Louisville. It's unclear if he'll explore opportunities elsewhere or decide to hang up his spikes.

Max Scherzer (thumb) is expected to make his next start on Tuesday against the Braves in Atlanta.

Scherzer jammed his thumb on a swing during Thursday's loss to the Cardinals which caused him to leave after seven innings. While he's 1-2 on the season, the 30-year-old has posted a stellar 1.26 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 29/4 K/BB ratio through 28 2/3 innings with the Nationals.

Anthony Gose is not in the Tigers starting lineup on Saturday.

Despite the Tigers facing a right-handed pitcher, it will be Rajai Davis starting in center field and hitting atop the lineup instead of Gose. The hot-hitting 24-year-old is slashing .333/.348/.511 with a homer and five RBI in 45 at-bats, though he sports a troublesome 19/1 K/BB ratio.

Scott Baker will be recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City to make a spot start for the Dodgers on Sunday against the Padres.

With a tough schedule coming up where the team plays on 17 consecutive days, the Dodgers want to give their regular starters an extra day of rest while they have the chance. The 33-year-old came within one pitch of a seven-inning perfect game for Oklahoma City his last time out. He could be worth a look as a streaming option.

Domonic Brown (Achilles) said Friday that he feels "outstanding" health wise as he nears his return to the Phillies next week.

Brown has been on an extended minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Lehigh Valley where he has gone 3-for-24 with three walks and five strikeouts. The Phillies wanted him to get as many at-bats as possible to get his timing back before rejoining the big league club. His last game with the Iron Pigs should be Sunday or Monday.
