Jon Niese was knocked around for six runs over five frames in Tuesday's loss to the Cubs.

It was an ugly night for Niese, as he surrendered nine hits, walked five and also hit a batter. There was reason to believe that Pirates pitching coach Ray Searage could work some magic with Niese, but so far it hasn't worked out. He's sporting a 5.94 ERA and has allowed at least four runs in four of six outings. The southpaw will try for better results next week in Cincinnati.

Billy Hamilton was removed from Tuesday's game against the Giants with a jammed left thumb.

Hamilton first jammed the thumb April 15 at Busch Stadium while making a diving catch and it has bothered him off and on since. He was 0-for-2 before exiting on Tuesday night and is batting just .215/.271/.354 in 23 games this season. Tyler Holt took over in center field.

Kris Bryant went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Pirates.

The Cubs didn't hit any homers in this one, but they piled up 11 hits and seven runs against Jon Niese and the Pirates' bullpen. Bryant has picked up five hits over 12 at-bats since returning from an ankle injury and is now up to .305/.394/.505 for the season with four homers and 17 RBI.

Josh Tomlin held the Tigers to two runs over six innings of work in Tuesday's 7-3 victory.

Tomlin surrendered nine hits -- with one of them being a two-run shot by Ian Kinsler -- but he didn't walk anyone and struck out five. The crafty right-hander has now won each of his four starts this season and sports a 3.13 ERA and 1.09 WHIP. He'll get the Royals this weekend at home.
May 3 - 9:47 PM

Justin Verlander was touched up for seven runs across five innings in Tuesday's loss to the Indians.

The Indians jumped on Verlander for three runs in the first inning, and Francisco Lindor provided an exclamation point in the fifth with a three-run homer. Verlander has posted quality starts in four of his six tries this season, but he's been lit up for seven runs in each of his other two outings, resulting in an ugly 6.49 ERA. He'll try to bounce back this weekend at home versus the Rangers.
May 3 - 9:44 PM

Francisco Lindor went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and three runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Tigers.

Lindor's long three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning off of Justin Verlander effectively ended the game, extending the Indians' lead to 7-2 at the time. It was the young shortstop's second longball of the season and pushed his RBI total up to 12. With a .315/.380/.438 batting line in his first 23 games, Lindor has certainly avoided a sophomore slump to this point.

Alex Rodriguez was pulled from Tuesday's game against the Orioles with an apparent leg injury.

A-Rod appeared to tweak something in his right leg while running to first base in the top of the fifth inning and Dustin Ackley entered to hit for him in the top of the eighth. There should be an update after the game. This could be a big blow for the already-struggling Yanks.
May 3 - 9:31 PM

Ian Kinsler singled and smacked a two-run homer in Tuesday's loss to the Indians.

Kinsler's shot to left field off of Josh Tomlin in the top of the fifth inning got the Tigers back in the game, but Francisco Lindor's three-run blast in the bottom of the frame essentially put the contest out of reach. After slugging a disappointing 10 homers last season, Kinsler already has five this year.
