Jose Abreu went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a two-run home run in Monday's loss to the Rays.

Abreu tied the game up at 2-2 in the sixth inning when he drilled a two-run home run to center field off of Nate Karns. The first baseman has been on a power surge of late, homering five times in his last 11 games, giving him 19 on the year along with 64 RBI and a .299/.355/.510 triple-slash line.

Monday's game between the Cubs and Pirates has been postponed due to rain.

No makeup date has been announced. Jon Lester lasted just 1 2/3 innings and Francisco Liriano two frames in a game that was delayed twice by rain before finally getting called. It's unclear when Lester and Liriano will make their next start.

Grady Sizemore ripped a game-tying solo home run, aiding in a comeback win over the White Sox on Monday.

Sizemore entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning and doubled, then later scored. The next inning, he slugged a game-tying solo home run off of lefty reliever Zach Duke. Aside from a few productive games in early July shortly after joining the Rays, Sizemore hasn't done much at the plate, batting .241/.250/.448 with three home runs and eight RBI.

Shawn Tolleson earned his 19th save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning on Monday as the Rangers out-hit the Astros in a 12-9 win.

Tolleson used 13 pitches, getting Peston Tucker to fly out, Evan Gattis to strike out, and Jed Lowrie to line out. He's now an impressive 19-for-20 in save situations with a 3.04 ERA and a 49/9 K/BB ratio over 47 1/3 innings.

Dan Straily will start on Tuesday against the Rangers.

Mike Fiers had been slated to take the ball but was forced to make his Astros' debut in relief on Monday after Lance McCullers lasted just one-third of an inning. Straily holds a 5.06 ERA over two spot starts for the Astros this season. He'll likely make at least two starts with the big club with McCullers being sent down.

Colby Lewis struggled against the Astros, allowing seven runs in six innings, but still managed to walk away with his 12th win of the season on Monday.

The Rangers gave him plenty of run support, scoring six times in the first inning and five times in the third. Lewis allowed two big hits: a two-run home run to Carlos Correa in the first, and a grand slam to Jason Castro in the fourth. They were two of 10 hits the Astros accrued along with a walk while the right-hander struck out three. Lewis has 12 wins, including wins in each of his last four starts, despite an ugly 4.68 ERA. He'll go for five in a row in Seattle against the Mariners next.

Carlos Correa homered for the fourth time in as many games, finishing 1-for-5 in a loss to the Rangers on Monday.

Correa gave the Astros an early 2-0 lead with a first-inning home run off of Colby Lewis, but it was quickly forgotten when the opposition posted a six-spot in the bottom half. The shortstop has done nothing but hit since arriving in the major leagues, currently the proud owner of a .297/.344/.573 triple-slash line along with 13 home runs and 34 RBI in 209 plate appearances.
Aug 3 - 11:50 PM

The Astros will option Lance McCullers to the minors after he lasted just one-third of an innings in Monday's loss to the Rangers.

The club is giving him some rest, as he might not do any throwing while in the minors. McCullers hadn't shown any signs before Monday that his career-high workload might be getting to him, as he posted a 3.13 ERA in July and tossed seven frames of one-run ball in his previous outing. He'll be eligible to rejoin the rotation in 10 days and could be back at that time. Dan Straily will take McCullers' spot in the rotation.
