John Jaso is absent from the Pirates' lineup Friday.

He's getting a day off with the Rangers throwing lefty Cole Hamels. Sean Rodriguez is at first base.
May 27 - 4:32 PM

Michael Brantley (shoulder) will take some dry swings and possibly hit off a tee on Friday.

It's a nice step, although there remains no timetable for Brantley to return to games so it's going to be a long process. The outfielder was placed on the disabled list two weeks ago due to fatigue in his surgically-repaired right shoulder.
May 27 - 4:31 PM

Dodgers transferred RHP Yimi Garcia from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Julio Urias. Garcia remains out indefinitely while recovering from numbness in his pitching arm.
May 27 - 4:29 PM

Dodgers purchased the contract of LHP Julio Urias from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Urias will make his major league debut on Friday against the Mets. The top prospect has put up a 1.10 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 44/8 K/BB ratio through 41 innings this season at Oklahoma City and was in the midst of a 27-inning scoreless streak at the time of his promotion. He's filling in for Alex Wood (triceps) and might be sent down after the start, although the Dodgers have discussed using Urias as a reliever.
May 27 - 4:25 PM

Adam Jones is hitting leadoff for the Orioles on Friday.

It's the first time he's been at the top of the batting order since May 6, 2010. The Orioles' offense -- Jones included -- has been scuffling of late, so they're trying to shake things up.
May 27 - 4:22 PM

Pedro Alvarez is not in the Orioles' lineup Friday.

It's the second time in five games he's been on the bench even with a righty on the mound. Alvarez has just three hits in his last 24 at-bats and is down to .192/.296/.343 for the season. The Orioles are going with Hyun-soo Kim in left field, Nolan Reimold in right and Mark Trumbo in the designated hitter spot.
May 27 - 4:21 PM

The Mets have scrapped the idea of trying Michael Conforto out at first base.

They kicked the idea around with Lucas Duda (back) slated to miss significant time but have ultimately decided against it. "Right now Michael has a lot on his plate and I don't need to add more to it," manager Terry Collins said.
May 27 - 4:16 PM

Shae Simmons (elbow) felt soreness in his right triceps during a recent appearance at Triple-A Gwinnett.

The good news is he's already feeling better and hopes to resume throwing next week. Simmons has completed a rehab from Tommy John surgery and should join the Braves' bullpen before long if he's healthy.
