Mike Foltynewicz allowed five runs -- four earned -- on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings, taking a no-decision against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Foltynewicz was actually in line for an undeserved win before the D'backs came back against the Braves' bullpen. It certainly wasn't his best effort, as he gave up a home run among his eight hits and walked two more, striking out five. The right-hander has still won just once in his last five starts. He'll take a 4.29 ERA and 1.38 WHIP into Tuesday's contest with the Padres.

Francisco Liriano fired seven innings of one-run ball Wednesday in the Pirates' 5-2 defeat of the Giants.

Liriano was masterful, limiting the Giants to four hits -- three singles and a double -- while striking out six. The veteran left-hander issued just one walk and now boasts a 3.24 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 81 strikeouts in 66 2/3 innings this season. The Pirates swept the three-game series in San Francisco and have now earned wins in 11 of their last 13 games. Here come the Buccos.
Jun 3 - 6:52 PM

Tim Hudson allowed two earned runs in seven innings Wednesday in the Giants' loss to the Pirates.

Hudson pitched well enough to deserve a victory, striking out six Pittsburgh hitters and walking just one, but the San Francisco bullpen let him down in a rough eighth and ninth. Hudson now stands 3-5 with a 4.41 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 36/16 K/BB ratio in 69 1/3 innings this season. He'll take on the Mets on the road next week.

Pedro Baez (pectoral) is throwing pain-free on flat ground.

Baez strained the pectoral muscle in mid-May, and it has proven to be a bit of a burden. He'll need to get back on the mound before the club can think about activating him. That sounds as though it could be soon, though.
Jun 3 - 6:47 PM

Kelly Johnson (oblique) began taking batting practice and doing defensive drills this week.

Johnson is working out at the Braves' spring training headquarters in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. There remains no timetable for his return, but that he's doing baseball activities is a good sign. The infielder will likely need a rehab assignment before returning to the Braves.
Jun 3 - 6:45 PM

Matt Albers (finger) had pins removed from his right pinkie and is rehabbing the finger.

The White Sox expected him to resume throwing soon, but nothing concrete has been set. Albers has been out since late April after sustaining a fractured pinkie during the team's brawl with the Royals.
Jun 3 - 6:43 PM

Jonathan Schoop (knee) has been playing in extended spring training games recently.

Schoop is recovering from a Grade 1 PCL tear in his left knee sustained in mid-April. Orioles manager Buck Showalter said a return before the All-Star break is still in play.
Jun 3 - 6:41 PM

Matt Wieters (elbow) will rejoin the Orioles on Friday in Cleveland.

There had been some discussion that the backstop could rejoin the team Thursday and serve as their designated hitter, but they'll wait another day to be safe. Wieters will be behind the plate in his first game back. His recovery from Tommy John surgery took a little longer than expected, but his elbow should be healthy going forward.
