Jedd Gyorko went 3-for-4 and drove home three runs on Friday as the Padres topped the Marlins 8-3 in 11 innings.

Gyorko tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI single in the fourth inning and delivered a two-run single as part of a five-run uprising in the 11th. While he has picked up the pace offensively in recent weeks, he is still hitting just .233/.296/.350 with 21 RBI on the year.
Jul 31 - 11:31 PM

Ian Kennedy delivered a strong performance in a no-decision on Friday, allowing just two runs on four hits over seven innings against the Marlins.

Kennedy punched out five and walked two on the night. The Marlins scratched out a pair of runs in the first inning, but the veteran right-hander was able to settle in nicely afterwards, shutting the Fish down in his final six frames. Kennedy left with a 3-2 lead and in line for his seventh victory, but Craig Kimbrel was unable to convert his save chance. He'll take on the Brewers in Milwaukee his next time out on Wednesday.
Jul 31 - 11:28 PM

Derek Dietrich slugged a game-tying solo homer off Craig Kimbrel with two outs in the ninth inning on Friday.

Unfortunately for the Marlins, his heroics went for naught as they fell in extra innings to the Padres. It was the lone hit in four at-bats on the night for Dietrich who is hitting .273/.373/.545 with six homers and eight RBI in his limited action this season.
Jul 31 - 11:27 PM

David Phelps struggled in a no-decision against the Padres on Friday, surrendering three runs on seven hits in his five innings of work.

The right-hander struck out a pair and walked one on the evening. He would have been on the hook for his eighth loss of the season, had the Marlins not rallied to tie the game in the ninth inning. He'll look to improve upon his 3.93 ERA and 1.29 WHIP when he takes on the Mets on Wednesday.
Jul 31 - 11:25 PM

A.J. Pollock was removed from Friday's game against the Astros due to tightness in his hamstring.

The Diamondbacks are calling his early exit purely precautionary. He's considered day-to-day and should be able to rejoin the Diamondbacks lineup at some point over the weekend.
Jul 31 - 11:24 PM

Twins optioned INF Jorge Polanco to Double-A Chattanooga.

Polanco was only with the club for a couple of days to provide infield depth while Trevor Plouffe was away on paternity leave. He should get another chance with the big league club in September.
Jul 31 - 11:21 PM

Twins optioned INF/OF Danny Santana to Triple-A Rochester.

Santana wasn't much better in his return from Triple-A and owns a troublesome .218/.242/.298 slash line on the season. He'll benefit from playing everyday at the minor league level.
Jul 31 - 11:19 PM

Mike Napoli slugged a two-run homer, drew two walks, and scored two runs in Friday's 7-5 win over the Rays.

Napoli took Jake McGee deep to the Monster Seats in the bottom of the seventh to give the Red Sox the lead. The veteran slugger hung around through Friday's trade deadline, but he's still a candidate to be moved in August. The 33-year-old is batting .210 with 13 home runs and a .704 OPS over 93 games this season.
