Titans waived FB Zach Boren, CB Ri'Shard Anderson, DB Khalid Wooten, DB Jemea Thomas, DL Isaako Aaitui, WR Josh Stewart and LB Kaelin Burnett.

There's nary a notable name on the list. The back end of the Titans' roster boasts very little upside.

Browns coach Mike Pettine emphasized Friday that Terrance West must be more consistent.

Pettine said he knows West has the ability to be a productive NFL back, but that his "ups and downs" are holding him back. Pettine credited Isaiah Crowell's "whole body of work" when explaining why he would be the starter. West's roster spot is secure, but he'll be the No. 3 back on the totem pole if Duke Johnson (concussion) gets cleared.

Duke Johnson remains in the NFL's concussion protocol.

Coach Mike Pettine said Friday that Johnson would "absolutely" play in Week 1 if he's cleared by then, but there was no real update with Johnson having yet to pass all his tests. Isaiah Crowell will be the Browns' Week 1 starter. The Browns would likely mix in Johnson sparingly if he's active against the Jets.

Johnny Manziel (elbow) will resume throwing a football soon.

Coach Mike Pettine said Friday that Johnny Football could resume throwing as soon as "today." Manziel missed the last half of preseason with elbow tendinitis. He visited Dr. James Andrews, who determined no surgery was needed.

The Fort Worth-Star Telegram reports the Cowboys could have interest in Montee Ball if he's released.

The Cowboys should be smart enough to know Ball is very likely to be waived by the Broncos, whereafter they could acquire him without giving up a draft pick. The Cowboys are not interested in parting with compensation to acquire Ball. Ball remains likely to end up on another team's roster by Monday.
Sep 4 - 3:15 PM

Texans coach Bill O'Brien is unsure if Jadeveon Clowney (knee) will be on a snap count in the opener.

The implication being, not only will Clowney be active, he could be full steam. It's the best-case scenario for Clowney after he was held out of practice until August 20. Ultimately, a snap count is likely, but Clowney's recovery appears to be exceeding the Texans' expectations. If Clowney can simply resemble the form that made him the top pick of last year's draft, the Texans are going to have one of the league's most terrifying pass rushing duos.
Sep 4 - 3:11 PM

A Cowboys source told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram the team has had "no trade talks" regarding Montee Ball.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport also tweeted Friday that the rumor -- which originated from CBS 4 in Denver -- is "not true." The Broncos are known to be shopping Ball, but at the moment it doesn't appear Dallas has genuine interest. If the Broncos can't find a trade partner, it seems likely Ball will be waived.
Sep 4 - 3:03 PM

Dan Herron tweeted Friday, "I'm good," after suffering a shoulder injury in Thursday night's preseason finale.

It could be taken as a sign that tests on Herron's shoulder came back clean after he was spotted in a sling in the locker room following Thursday's game. A healthy Herron would enter the season as Frank Gore's top backup.
