Peter Bourjos went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBI as the Rays crushed the Orioles 15-6 on Wednesday.

Bourjos is a shiny new toy for the Rays, so it'll be interesting to see how much he plays early on with Colby Rasmus out. He's been a pretty terrible hitter three years running, finishing with OBPs between .290 and .294 each season, and while he's still an asset defensively, he's not the all-world defender he was when he entered the league. The Rays should treat him as a fifth outfielder, not anything more.

Alex Colome surrendered a pair of solo homers in his inning versus the Orioles on Wednesday.

The wins was blowing out and Colome hadn't had any previous issues with the home run ball this spring, so this probably isn't of much concern. He was one of the AL's best closers last year, and there's no reason that should change this year.

Kevin Gausman allowed two runs -- one earned -- and walked four in 3 2/3 innings Wednesday against the Rays.

Gausman fanned five, but this wasn't quite the Opening Day tuneup that he was looking for to conclude his strong spring. He'll get the Blue Jays on Monday.

Nick Franklin, who didn't play Tuesday because of an illness, hit a three-run homer and walked Wednesday.

Franklin's strong finish last year and versatility appeared likely to make him a significant part of the Rays' plans for this year, but his stock seems to have faded some, and even with two regulars set to open the year on the DL in Matt Duffy and Colby Rasmus, it's unclear what Franklin's role will be. He has both pop and stolen base ability, giving some upside for fantasy purposes. It doesn't look like he'll be a factor early on, though.

Bo Schultz underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow on Wednesday.

Schultz also had bone chips removed from the elbow during Wednesday's intensive surgery. With this procedure in the books, the 31-year-old right-hander is expected to miss the 2017 season. He posted a 5.51 ERA in 16 relief appearances during the past campaign.
Mar 29 - 4:53 PM

Hyun Soo Kim went 2-for-4 and took Alex Colome deep in Wednesday's loss to the Rays.

It still looks like Kim will play left field against right-handers, but it seems that he won't hit leadoff, even though he was the obvious choice once the decision was made to drop Adam Jones from his perch. Kim had a .382 OBP in his 305 at-bats last year, and while he didn't supplement that with value on the basepaths, it's still about 50 points higher than the typical leadoff OBP in the AL. As is, it looks like Kim will start off in the bottom half of the order, limiting his already modest fantasy value.

Cardinals purchased the contract of C Eric Fryer from Triple-A Memphis.

The Red Birds inked Fryer to a minors contract in December. With a career .254/.332/.328 triple-slash across 256 major league at-bats, there is no fantasy intrigue here. The veteran backstop will serve as backup to Yadier Molina during the coming campaign.

Cardinals placed LHP Zach Duke on the 60-day disabled list with a left elbow injury.

No surprise here. Duke underwent Tommy John surgery -- plus a procedure to repair a flexor muscle -- in mid-October. He will miss the 2017 season as he attempts to work his way back from that major surgery. Duke initially joined the Cardinals in a trade from the White Sox at the deadline this past summer.
