Broncos coach Gary Kubiak said "everything's in place" for WR Cody Latimer to "have a big year."
With Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders missing time during OTAs and training camp, Latimer has run with the starters for most of the offseason. He has reportedly made several big plays in practice, but he has yet to show that playmaking ability in the preseason. Latimer will struggle to make a consistent fantasy impact behind Sanders and Thomas, but he will be a hot commodity if either goes down.
ESPN's Ed Werder reports Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt has not decided if QB Marcus Mariota will play in the fourth preseason game.
Starters rarely play a significant role in the fourth preseason game, but the Titans may decide to get their rookie signal caller a couple more reps before the regular season. After a rocky start, Mariota has played well the last two weeks.
Patriots RB James White played just two snaps in the third preseason game.
White did not record a statistic. After opening the preseason as the favorite for the Patriots' third-down job, White appears to have fallen behind Brandon Bolden and Dion Lewis on the depth chart. White had a similar trajectory last offseason, dazzling in OTAs before disappearing when the pads came on. White could still earn a role in the offense, but he is running out of time.
ESPN's Dianna Marie Russini reports the Redskins plan to start QB Kirk Cousins Week 1.
Russini made her bones as a reporter in DC, so she is as plugged into the team as any national reporter. ESPN's Ed Werder reported GM Scot McCloughan is determined to change the team's culture and could decide to move on from Robert Griffin III. The mystifying situation surrounding Griffin's concussion may have given him that shot. Cousins is the owner of a 59-percent career completion percentage and has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns in 14 regular season appearances.
The Chicago Sun-Times noted the Bears "DB Shuffle" as a factor to watch in Week 3 of the NFL preseason with cuts looming.
New defensive coordinator Vic Fangio will attempt to revive the Chicago secondary that finished 2014 30th in the NFL against the pass after coughing up 264.4 passing yards per contest. The Chicago D/ST can safely be left off of fantasy cheat sheets this draft season and certainly won’t be an option in Week 1 as they host the Green Bay Packers.
OLB Stansly Maponga was deemed a "player to watch" prior to Atlanta’s third preseason game.
Multiple members of the AtlantaFalcons.com editorial staff stated that they would like to see Maponga, a third-year linebacker, build upon his successful preseason start. Maponga figures to provide depth for the Atlanta D/ST unit that had a disappointing 2014 season.
The Detroit Lions averaged over 10 yards per play in the first half against the Jacksonville defense on Friday night.
The Florida Times-Union highlighted the defensive deficiencies that were present in Jacksonville’s third preseason game, noting that the defense turned in an "alarming performance." The Jaguars D/ST is not on the fantasy radar and certainly won’t be an option in Week 1 when they host the ball-control offense of the Carolina Panthers.
The Jets defense has given up 24 points on four drives when their starters have faced opposing starters this preseason.
This interesting nugget is courtesy of the New York Daily News, and is cause for alarm as the Jets begin to implement the scheme of new defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers. The Jets defense hauled in an NFL-low six interceptions in 2014, so forcing turnovers will be key for this unit as they attempt to build success under a new coaching staff. The Jets D/ST will be a worthwhile fantasy option in Week 1 as they host the Cleveland Browns at MetLife Stadium and attempt to pick on quarterback Josh McCown.
