Jason Kipnis went 3-for-4 with a double, but the Indians dropped Tuesday's contest to the Royals.

Kipnis couldn't be brought around to score as the Indians' 2-5 hitters combined to go 2-for-14. The Indians have dropped six games in a row, averaging 1.7 runs per game. But it's not the fault of Kipnis, who has an outstanding .330/.405/.485 triple-slash line on the year.

Eric Hosmer was responsible for both runs as the Royals edged the Indians on Tuesday, finishing 3-for-4.

Hosmer broke a 0-0 tie in the fourth inning with an RBI single, then broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the ninth with a solo home run off of Trevor Bauer. He broke a 25-game homerless drought last week and now has three round-trippers in his last seven games. Hosmer has 11 home runs overall with 55 RBI and a .313/.372/.478 batting line.

A.J. Ramos got into and out of danger in the ninth inning on Tuesday, closing out a 4-1 win versus the Nationals.

Ramos loaded the bases with one out on a double and two walks. He managed to get Yunel Escobar to ground into a game-ending double play. The right-hander did the same thing in an appearance on Thursday, but with no outs and still escaped. It's not the most efficient way to get saves, but at least he's getting them. Ramos is 17-for-21 in save situations on the year with a 1.44 ERA and a 55/14 K/BB ratio in 43 2/3 innings.

Pablo Sandoval went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Tuesday's loss to the White Sox.

Sandoval's two-run blast against White Sox starter Jeff Samardzija in the second inning was all the offense the Red Sox could muster until the ninth inning. The two-hit game was Sandoval's third in a row, raising his line to .263/.307/.382 with eight homers and 34 RBI.

Martin Prado had three hits and a walk in four plate appearances in Tuesday's win over the Nationals.

Prado singled in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning and later scored on a J.T. Realmuto ground out. He has drawn some trade interest, though he was mostly linked to the Royals, who recently acquired Ben Zobrist. Prado has had a subpar offensive year, batting .280/.321/.375 with four home runs and 27 RBI.

Melky Cabrera continued to hit the cover off the ball Tuesday, finishing 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in a win over the Red Sox.

Cabrera has been the hottest hitter in baseball since the All-Star break, going 21-for-52 (.404) with multi-hit games in each of his last six contests. On Thursday, three of his four hits went for extra bases, as he doubled twice and tripled in the win. Cabrera's torrid stretch has his line up to .281/.319/.392 after a brutal first half.
Jul 28 - 10:28 PM

Dee Gordon went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored in his return from the disabled list Tuesday as the Marlins took down the Nationals.

Gordon led off the sixth inning with a triple and scored on Martin Prado's single to break a 1-1 tie. He had also led off the first inning with a single but was erased when he was caught attempting to steal second base, bringing his league-leading caught-stealing total to 13 in 46 attempts. Gordon is hitting .341/.361/.420 with 47 runs scored in a career year.

Mookie Betts is displaying symptoms consistent with a concussion.

He will undergo further testing, but you'd have to think there's a good chance the Red Sox will play it safe and go ahead and put him on the 7-day concussion disabled list. Betts suffered the injury Tuesday when he tumbled over the short bullpen wall at Fenway Park while trying to make a catch.
