Tyler Flowers hit a grand slam in the fifth inning of Sunday's 8-1 rout of the Reds.

It was the only hit of the game for Flowers, but it was obviously a big one. The 31-year-old catcher boasts a career-best .292/.384/.468 batting line with 11 home runs and 43 RBI in 83 total games this season. He holds a team-friendly $4 million club option for 2018 and may be a candidate for a contract extension this winter.

Freddie Freeman finished 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in the Braves' victory over the Reds on Sunday.

Freeman is working on a nine-game hitting streak and has registered five doubles and one home run in that span. The star first baseman is slashing .325/.420/.631 in 78 total games this season.

Sean Newcomb worked five shutout innings Sunday in the Braves' victory over the Reds.

Newcomb walked five batters, surrendered five hits, and tallied just two strikeouts, but the Reds couldn't manage any high-leverage offense in the 8-1 rout at SunTrust Park. Newcomb is now 2-7 with a 4.13 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, and 71/42 K/BB ratio over his first 69 2/3 major league frames. He'll get the Rockies at home in his next start.
Aug 20 - 4:53 PM

Luis Castillo allowed two runs over four innings Sunday in a loss to the Braves.

Castillo struck out eight batters, but his pitch count grew in a hurry and he was lifted before the top of the fifth. The young right-hander has an impressive 3.45 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 74/30 K/BB ratio through his first 70 1/3 major league innings, though he'll bring a 2-6 record into his next start at home against the Pirates.

Justin Bour (oblique) is set to resume baseball activities this week.

Bour has been on the shelf since July 25 due to his oblique strain. The 29-year-old slugger was having a terrific season, slashing .289/.366/.548 with 21 homers and 63 RBI in his first 87 games. He's still likely a couple of weeks away from rejoining the Marlins.

Giancarlo Stanton launched his 45th home run of the season Sunday in the Marlins' 6-4 defeat of the Mets.

Stanton drove Mets starter Jacob deGrom from the game with a three-run shot in the top of the seventh inning. He also singled in the afternoon victory at Citi Field, finishing 2-for-5 with one run scored and three RBI. Stanton is currently on pace for 60 home runs, 125 runs scored, and 129 RBI.

Adam Conley limited the Mets to one run over seven innings Sunday for his sixth win of the year.

Conley looked dominant in this one, striking out 11 batters while holding the Mets to two walks and three hits. The one run against him came on a solo shot by Yoenis Cespedes in the bottom of the first inning. Conley has pitched well overall since returning to the major league level in mid-July, though he stands 6-5 on the year with a 4.93 ERA and 1.41 WHIP. Up next is a start at home against the Padres.
Aug 20 - 4:13 PM

Brad Ziegler notched his sixth save of the season on Sunday afternoon against the Mets.

Ziegler allowed a one-out single to Gavin Cecchini but promptly induced a game-ending double play from Asdrubal Cabrera. The veteran right-hander has been able to fend off Kyle Barraclough for Miami's closer gig, though that could change before the end of the month. Barraclough worked in the eighth inning on Sunday.
