9News' Mike Klis left does not believe Broncos RB Montee Ball will make the final roster.
Ball has been steadily falling down the depth chart all offseason and played behind Juwan Thompson in the third preseason game. Ball should get one more shot in the fourth preseason game to show his worth, but right now his job is anything but secure.
Panthers released CB Melvin White.
White started games for the Panthers as recently as last season, but he was benched last year was well behind Charles Tillman on the depth chart. With White gone, Teddy Williams will likely make the final 53.
ESPN's Britt McHenry reports T.Y. Hilton (concussion) is expected to be cleared on Thursday.
Hilton and the rest of the Colts' starters are unlikely to play in the final preseason game, but being cleared this week puts Hilton on track for the season opener. Hilton is a borderline WR1.
Patriots acquired WR/KR Jalen Saunders from the Saints in exchange for a conditional draft pick.
With RB/KR Marcus Murphy set to make the Saints, Saunders spot on the team was in serious question. Patriots undrafted rookie WR Chris Harper had been getting work as a returner this preseason, so this move could be bad news for his roster chances.
Bucs released P Michael Koenen.
This was expected after Koenen struggled badly the last two seasons. Tampa Bay will save $3.3 million by releasing him. Jacob Schum is expected to take over punting duties.
Jets coach Todd Bowles hinted that RB Stevan Ridley (knee) will begin the season on the reserve/PUP list.
"We have some quality running backs right now, and they’re all playing good," Bowles said, "so Ridley can take his time and get healthy." Ridley opening the season on the PUP should open a roster spot for Zac Stacy.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports free agent RB Fred Jackson will meet with the Seahawks on Tuesday.
Rapoport said both sides expect a deal to get done. Cut by the Bills on Monday, Jackson would provide a veteran presence behind starter Marshawn Lynch, his former teammate in Buffalo and a player with whom he is reportedly close. Bringing in Jackson could signal the end of the line for Christine Michael.
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports Vikings rookie CB Trae Waynes is not in the starting mix right now.
DC George Edwards said last week he was "aiming for" Waynes to a be a Week 1 starter, but coach Mike Zimmer said that comment was misinterpreted. Xavier Rhodes and Terrance Newman should open the season as the starters outside with Captain Munnerlyn serving as the slot corner.
