Padres acquired INF Yangervis Solarte and RHP Rafael De Paula from the Yankees for 3B Chase Headley and cash considerations.

The Yankees picked Solarte up for nothing over the winter and managed to turn him into an upgrade at third base. Pretty nice work by GM Brian Cashman. For San Diego, this was mostly about getting anything for Headley, who will be a free agent after the season. A qualifying offer wasn't a realistic option, as he likely would have accepted a one-year deal in the range of $15 million. Solarte could see some time at third base down the stretch in San Diego, but his days of fantasy relevancy are likely already behind him.

Padres acquired RHP Rafael De Paula from the Yankees in the Chase Headley deal.

The Padres also acquired Yangervis Solarte, but De Paula is the most intriguing piece. The 23-year-old owns a 4.15 ERA and 104/38 K/BB ratio over 89 innings this season with High-A Tampa. He has a big arm and has struggled with his control at times, so some believe he could end up in the bullpen in the long-term.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Yankees have dealt pitching prospect Rafael DePaula to the Padres as part of the Chase Headley trade.

DePaula has as good fastball and slider, but has poor command and a well below-average change-up. The Yankees have been developing the 23-year old Dominican as a starter, and the Padres will likely continue to do so, though his poor command and solid two-pitch mix could turn him into another solid relief option for the Padres.

Rays prospect Tim Beckham went 3-for-4 with a triple for rookie-level GCL Rays on Monday.

Beckham tore his ACL in December and has been working his way back since then. He was viewed as a potential five-tool talent when drafted first overall in 2008, but has struggled to live up to his lofty draft status and has turned into a potential utility infiedler with some pop. Beckham may return to the major leagues in September.

Giants prospect shortstop Christian Arroyo went 3-for-5 for short season-A Salem-Keizer on Monday, raising his season line to .307/.364/.421.

Arroyo struggled to start the season in the Low-A South Atlantic League, but has done much better in the more-age appropriate Northwest League. Arroyo projects as an above-average defensive shortstop who hits near the league average, though his long-term defensive home remains up in the air.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Yankees have acquired third baseman Chase Headley from the Padres.

Neither team has confirmed the deal, but the Yankees will send infielder Yangervis Solarte and prospect right-hander right-hander Rafael De Paula to the Padres. New York will also receive $1 million from San Diego to help cover part of the nearly $4 million remaining on Headley's contract for this season.

Mariners prospect outfielder Gabriel Guerrero went 2-for-4 with a double for High-A High Desert on Monday.

Guerrero is in the midst of an 11-game hit streak during which he has hit .340/.365/.460. After a poor June, during which he hit .247/.281/.315, Guerrero looks like he could hit .300 for his third out of four months, while posing an OPS higher than 800. His aggressive approach will likely make him a one level per year prospect, but he has the raw talent to hit .300 with 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases.

Jack Curry of YES Network reports that the Yankees are finalizing a deal to acquire third baseman Chase Headley from the Padres.

David Waldstein of the New York Times hears that Yangervis Solarte and Rafael De Paula will head to San Diego. That's obviously be a lot less than the Padres could have received a year or two ago, but his value has taken a hit since then and he's also due to be a free agent this offseason. The Yankees will also receive cash in the deal. Headley is batting just .229/.296/.355 with seven home runs and 32 RBI over 77 games this season, but he has played better of late and could finish strong in the hitter-friendly Yankee Stadium. There's no question that he's an upgrade over what the Yankees currently have at third base.
