Adam Jones went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in Tuesday's loss to the Twins.

Jones' RBI double in the top of the eighth inning was too little, too late for the O's, but it was still the cap to a decent night for the outfielder. Jones now has 15 doubles on the year to go with a .288/.334/.477 line. With his shoulder ailment in the rearview mirror for now, Jones should continue to produce going forward.

Joe Mauer went 2-for-4 with three runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Orioles.

Mauer singled twice and walked in the game, scoring all three times he reached base. Mauer has now hit safely in 16 of his last 20 games, raising his season line to .278/.346/.389. The first baseman has five homers, 41 RBI and 35 runs scored with a handful of games left to go before the All-Star break.

Edinson Volquez limited the Rays to one run over five innings but took a no-decision as the Royals beat the Rays 7-1 in the second game of a doubleheader on Tuesday.

Volquez was inefficient, allowing five hits and three walks with five strikeouts while throwing 101 pitches. But the only run the Rays were able to push across came in the third inning on John Jaso's solo home run. Volquez hasn't been great since the end of May, as he's been unable to complete the sixth inning in six of his last eight starts. He still has a productive 3.40 ERA with a 1.22 WHIP and a 78/36 K/BB ratio over 100 2/3 innings, however. Volquez will round out the first half at home against the Blue Jays.
Jul 7 - 11:39 PM

Matt Andriese pitched well over 4 2/3 innings, allowing one run in a no-decision as the Rays dropped the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Royals.

Andriese allowed four hits and three walks while striking out five. The Royals finally broke through against him in his final inning when Alex Gordon knocked in a run with a single. The right-hander has been dependable for the Rays, both out of the bullpen and out of the rotation, carrying a 3.11 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP and a 32/10 K/BB ratio in 46 1/3 innings.

Rays activated RHP Andrew Bellatti from the 15-day disabled list.

Bellatti missed nearly a month of action with right shoulder tendinitis. He'll be utilized in middle relief.
Jul 7 - 11:35 PM

Kevin Gausman was battered early in Tuesday's loss to the Twins, giving up eight runs -- seven earned -- over 3 2/3 innings.

Gausman didn't seem to have much idea where the ball was going, giving up seven hits and a walk while throwing two wild pitches in the outing. In his defense, three of the eight runs allowed scored after Gausman had left the game. The start was easily the worst of his three thus far -- he'd allowed just eight earned runs over 23 1/3 innings this year before Tuesday's start. Gausman will carry a 5.00 ERA and 1.30 WHIP into the All-Star break.
Jul 7 - 11:34 PM

Rays designated LHP Everett Teaford for assignment.

They need a fresh arm after Teaford pitched in both games of Tuesday's doubleheader. Andrew Bellatti is back from the disabled list to take Teaford's spot in the bullpen.
Jul 7 - 11:34 PM

Kyle Gibson held the Orioles to two runs over six innings, striking out seven, in a win Tuesday.

Gibson yielded six hits and a walk, with J.J. Hardy's two-run homer in the fifth inning accounting for all the damage against the right-hander. Gibson hasn't allowed more than two runs in any of his last four starts, and he improved to 7-6 with a 3.04 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with the win. He'll try to grab one more win before the All-Star break when he takes on the Tigers on Sunday.
