Kevin Gausman struck out eight batters over six shutout innings Monday in the Orioles' 5-0 victory at Tampa Bay.

Gauman issued three walks and surrendered five hits, but he kept the Rays from doing any meaningful damage. The 26-year-old right-hander has now put together two excellent pitching lines since Orioles manager Buck Showalter suggested that he might be on the verge of a demotion to the minor leagues. He still has an ugly 5.79 ERA and 1.72 WHIP for the year.

Manny Machado drove in two runs and stole his sixth base of the season Monday versus the Rays.

Machado plated both Ruben Tejada and Joey Rickard with a single to center in the top of the eighth and then promptly swiped second base. He finished 1-for-4 with a strikeout in the victory.

Adam Jones went 3-for-5 with a solo homer, a double, and two runs scored as the Orioles beat the Rays on Monday night in Tampa Bay.

Jones hit a leadoff double in the top of the first inning and then opened the game's scoring in the top of the third with his drive to left field off Rays starter Blake Snell. He also singled and scored in the top of the eighth. The veteran center fielder is batting .278/.318/.468 with 19 homers, 51 RBI, and 55 runs scored in 92 games this year.

Blake Snell was charged with three earned runs over seven-plus innings Monday in a loss to the Orioles.

Snell actually looked pretty sharp until the top of the eighth inning, when the Orioles' bats came alive for three runs on four singles and a sacrifice fly. Tampa Bay's offense provided zero runs of support as the 24-year-old left-hander dropped to 0-6 on the season. A road start against the Yankees is next.

Roberto Osuna earned his 25th save with a dominant ninth inning Monday as the Blue Jays topped the Athletics 4-2.

Osuna struck out all three batters he faced on 16 total pitches. The 22-year-old right-hander has surrendered just one run since the first week of June and he boasts a 2.01 ERA, 0.72 WHIP, and 56/4 K/BB ratio through 40 1/3 innings this season.
Jul 24 - 10:10 PM

Francisco Liriano held the A's to two runs over five innings Monday for his sixth win of the season.

Liriano yielded just two hits, though one was a solo homer by Oakland third baseman Matt Chapman in the top of the fifth inning. The left-hander walked two and struck out five. He's now 6-5 on the year with a 5.99 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, and 70/42 K/BB ratio in 76 2/3 innings.

Matt Chapman homered for the third straight game Monday in the Athletics' loss to the Blue Jays.

Chapman went deep for a solo shot in the top of the fifth inning against Toronto starter Francisco Liriano, continuing his power surge that began just after the All-Star break. Oakland's offense managed only one other hit in Monday's defeat at Rogers Centre.

Russell Martin hit his 10th home run of the season Monday in the Blue Jays' win over the A's.

It was a first-inning solo shot off Oakland starter Chris Smith. Martin also singled in the game, finishing 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. He's slashing .222/.358/.383 this year.
