Anthony Rizzo went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a walk Thursday against the Cardinals.

Rizzo, who came off the disabled list on Tuesday, doubled his hit total for the season; he had been 3-for-31 in seven games.

Xander Bogaerts (ankle) went through agility drills on Thursday.

He's worked out all three days the Red Sox have been in Anaheim. Beat writer Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe expects him back either by the end of the team's current nine-game road trip or at the start of their next homestand, which begins on April 27. Brock Holt and Tzu-Wei Lin will continue to fill in at shortstop for Boston.
Apr 19 - 5:39 PM

Tommy Pham, who didn't start after injuring his groin Wednesday, flied out as a pinch-hitter Thursday against the Cubs.

Pham is expected to back in center field on Friday. Harrison Bader went 1-for-4 in his place today.
Apr 19 - 5:38 PM

Jedd Gyorko went 2-for-2 with two walks against the Cubs on Thursday.

Gyorko was making his first start since coming off the disabled list, so he's now started three of the six games in which he's been on the active roster. This seems like a good time to remember that Gyorko was the Cardinals' second-best player last year behind only Tommy Pham. He's 5-for-8 with three walks and no strikeouts this season. The Cardinals want to play Jose Martinez regularly, for good reason, but Gyorko still deserves to be their starting third baseman.

Alex Gordon (hip) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Friday.

Gordon was placed on the DL with a labral tear in his left hip earlier this month but is already on the mend. Barring a setback, Gordon should be back in the Royals' lineup sometime next week. He was hitting just .174 before his injury.
Apr 19 - 5:14 PM

Shohei Ohtani (blister) will serve as the Angels' DH Thursday against the Red Sox.

Ohtani's start was cut short due to a blister on Tuesday night, though manager Mike Scioscia doesn't think the blister will affect his hitting. He'll bat sixth against Boston lefty Eduardo Rodriguez. The rookie sensation has hit a robust .367 this year with three homers and 11 RBI.
Apr 19 - 5:12 PM

Kole Calhoun is not in the Angels' lineup Thursday against the Red Sox.

Calhoun will get the night off against Red Sox left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez. Chris Young will spell him in right field and bat eighth. Calhoun hasn't gotten going yet this year, batting .205 with 19 strikeouts through his first 73 at-bats. Only two of his 15 hits this year have gone for extra bases.
Apr 19 - 5:10 PM

Jeimer Canderlario went 4-for-4 with a homer, three RBI and a walk as the Tigers topped the Orioles 13-8 on Thursday.

13 runs for the Tigers, yet a combined two RBI from Miguel Cabrera, Nicholas Castellanos, Victor Martinez and James McCann. Candelario, Leonys Martin and Jose Iglesias combined to drive in 10 runs. That trio previously had 10 RBI in 173 at-bats this season. Candelario had already picked it up this week, going 5-for-13 with two homers and a triple in the Tigers' previous three games. He's raised his OPS from .618 to .897 during the stretch. We're not very optimistic he'll have lasting value in mixed leagues.
