Twins reassigned RHP Nick Tepesch to minor league camp.
Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune notes that this means Michael Tonkin and Justin Haley are both likely to make the Opening Day roster. Tepesch, a non-roster invitee, compiled a 4.41 ERA and 9/9 K/BB ratio over 16 1/3 innings this spring.
Twins reassigned RHP Alex Wimmers to minor league camp.
Wimmers allowed two runs over nine innings with an 8/4 K/BB ratio this spring as a non-roster player. The 2010 first-round pick made the full-time move to the bullpen last year and posted a 4.15 ERA over 16 appearances during his first taste of the bigs. He could earn his way back this year.
Juan Lagares (oblique) will try to do some running on Wednesday.
Lagares exited Saturday's game with a left oblique strain, but he said Tuesday that he was encouraged by the MRI results. He still thinks he could be ready for Opening Day, but players often state a more optimistic view of these sort of things than the team and their training staff. There should be more clarity soon.
Red Sox reassigned LHP Edgar Olmos to minor league camp.
Olmos didn't make the decision easy for the Red Sox, posting a 1.54 ERA and 11/4 K/BB ratio over 11 2/3 innings. Despite the strong performance, there just wasn't a spot for him.
Matt Harvey will start the Mets' third game of the regular season.
Noah Syndergaard will start Opening Day against the Braves while Jacob deGrom will get the ball for the second game. Harvey has started to look a lot more like himself over his last couple of spring outings, so he's carrying some momentum going into the season. He's making his way back from surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome. The Mets haven't announced their rotation plans beyond the first three games.
Mitch Moreland was scratched from Wednesday's Grapefruit League lineup.
No word on the reason for the change. The Red Sox should provide an update soon.
Nationals optioned RHP A.J. Cole to Triple-A Syracuse.
Cole recently dealt with some triceps soreness, but it doesn't sound like a major concern. If healthy, the 25-year-old will function as rotation insurance this year.
Nationals optioned RHP Trevor Gott to Triple-A Syracuse; reassigned RHP Jacob Turner, LHP Neal Cotts, and C Jhonatan Solano to minor league camp.
Gott made nine appearances for the Nationals last season and spent the majority of the year in Triple-A while posting a 4.35 ERA and 31/13 K/BB ratio over 39 1/3 innings. He figures to get another try in the major league bullpen at some point this year.
