White Sox pitching prospect Terance Marin hurled seven shutout innings Tuesday for Triple-A Charlotte.
Onelki Garcia blew the save, denying Marin what would have been his fifth victory of the season. Two of those wins came during a 10-game stint with Tijuana. Marin hasn't allowed a run in his last 29 innings. The five strikeouts he recorded Tuesday were his most since joining Charlotte on June 8.
Matt Carpenter is out of Tuesday's lineup against the White Sox.
Chris Sale is on the hill for the White Sox, so it's not a bad time to give Carpenter a bit of a breather. Mark Reynolds will start at third base while Xavier Scruggs plays first.
Kolten Wong is not in Tuesday's lineup against the White Sox.
The Cardinals had a scheduled off-day on Monday, so manager Mike Matheny is likely just using this as an opportunity to give him some extra rest. Pete Kozma will start at second base while Peter Bourjos will bat leadoff. Chris Sale is on the mound for Chicago.
James Loney (finger) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with High-A Charlotte.
Loney, out since May 24 with a broken left middle finger, will DH in his return to game action. He has a good chance to return prior to the All-Star break.
Tigers OF prospect Steven Moya broke out of a 6-for-36 slump by belting two homers Monday in a win for Triple-A Toledo.
Both homers were solo shots. Moya now has 11 blasts in 277 at-bats this season. Unfortunately, he's also stuck out 95 times over that same stretch. It's doubtful Moya will ever hit for a high average in the major leagues but his raw power could be enough to earn a promotion later this season. The 23-year-old is No. 84 on MLB.com's top prospect list.
Rays signed first-round pick OF Garrett Whitley.
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Whitley will receive a $2,962,000 bonus, which is the full slot value for the No. 13 overall pick. The 18-year-old is a toolsy outfielder who should stick in center field as a pro.
Russell Martin is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Red Sox.
He's likely just getting a day off. Dioner Navarro will start behind the plate and catch Marco Estrada.
Josh Harrison is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Tigers.
He's likely just getting a breather. Jung Ho Kang will start at third base while Francisco Cervelli serves at the DH and Chris Stewart starts behind the plate.
