Nick Markakis is not in the Braves' lineup Sunday.

It's only Markakis' second day off this season. Eury Perez is taking his spot in right field.

Yankees recalled RHP Branden Pinder from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

He's taking Diego Moreno's spot in the bullpen. Pinder boasts a 2.92 ERA over 11 relief appearances with the big club this season.

Athletics optioned RHP R.J. Alvarez to Triple-A Nashville.

Alvarez holds a disappointing 12.54 ERA over 11 relief appearances with the A's this season. He'll try to work out his issues in the minors.
Aug 2 - 12:18 PM

Rangers recalled RHP Phil Klein from Triple-A Round Rock.

Klein was just sent down last week but returns with Tanner Scheppers (knee) going on the disabled list. He holds a 5.82 ERA in 17 innings this season.
Aug 2 - 12:16 PM

Rangers placed RHP Tanner Scheppers on the 15-day disabled list with left knee inflammation.

Scheppers evidently suffered the injury on Saturday. It's unclear at this point how long he'll be sidelined. Phil Klein has taken his spot in the bullpen.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle writes that it's possible Jesse Hahn (forearm) "will remain shut down."

The A's said in mid-July that Hahn, who is battling right forearm inflammation, would be shut down for at least a month. Given that they're out of playoff contention, it's possible they'll play it safe and just shut the righty down for the rest of the season. Forearm injuries often wind up leading to Tommy John surgery, and Hahn has already had the operation once.
Aug 2 - 12:13 PM

Sean Doolittle (shoulder) threw a 31-pitch bullpen session on Saturday.

He's expected to either throw live batting practice or a simulated game next in what could be his last step before a rehab assignment. Doolittle could rejoin the Athletics' bullpen in mid- to late-August if all goes well. It's possible he'll get his closer job back with Tyler Clippard no longer around, though that's probably a ways down the road.
Aug 2 - 12:08 PM

Carlos Gonzalez is not in the Rockies' lineup Sunday.

He's just getting a breather. Brandon Barnes is handling right field with CarGo out.
