ESPN Redskins reporter John Keim said Washington wants SS Dashon Goldson back if they can lower his cap number.

Goldson was one of the worst safeties in the league last season and is owed $8 million in salary and bonuses. The Redskins can save all of that against the cap by releasing him. Goldson theoretically brings veteran leadership to the secondary, but Washington has to upgrade the back-end of their defense this offseason. Goldson should not be starting Week 1.

Le'Veon Bell (MCL, PCL) has not yet been cleared to run.

Bell tore both his MCL and PCL early in November. Bell is expected to be ready for Week 1, but he is facing a tricky recovery which could linger longer than expected. Bell's recovery will be a hot topic throughout the offseason.

Panthers RE Jared Allen (broken foot, probable) will start Super Bowl 50.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera confirmed Allen and Thomas Davis (broken arm, probable) will start. Allen was given a rest Wednesday, but he was a full participant the rest of the week. Every Panther is probable or better for the Super Bowl.

Falcons owner Arthur Blank said he will have no input on the decision to cut or retain Roddy White.

"I have nothing but respect for Roddy and I love Roddy," Blank said. "When it comes to where Roddy is in the future, that's where the owner doesn't get involved. That's a decision that will be made by the coach, the coaching staff and personnel." Blank added the organization is still in the process of evaluating the roster. Coach Dan Quinn hinted White would stick around, but GM Thomas Dimitroff said White may have to redo his contract to stay with the team. White has already said he will not accept a pay cut. The two sides look headed for a divorce.

Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott said he wants to play for the Cowboys.

"I want to go play behind that great offensive line they have down in Dallas," Elliott said. Dallas has a need at running back and are almost certainly interested in the 6-foot, 225-pound playmaker. The problem is draft position. Elliott would be a reach at the No. 4 overall selection, and he will likely be off the board when the Cowboys select early in the second round. Unless Dallas makes a trade or Elliott has a precipitous fall, this dream will likely go unrealized.

ESPN Cowboys reporter Todd Archer believes Dallas would be interested in bringing back DeMarco Murray "if the numbers are reworked."

Murray said he wants to remain with the Eagles, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Murray and the organization "are not in a good place." The contract is an obstacle, but it is highly unlikely Dallas will get a shot at Murray regardless. The guaranteed money in Murray's deal makes cutting him difficult, and trades between division rivals rarely happen. Murray's future in Philadelphia remains murky, but it is unlikely he returns to Dallas.

ESPN Patriots reporter Mike Reiss thinks it is unlikely impending free agent Stevan Ridley returns to New England.

The Patriots need running back help, and Ridley was drafted by the Patriots and had his best seasons in New England. The pair divorced for a reason last offseason, however, and an unsuccessful stint with the Jets likely did not change Ridley's opinion on his potential workload with the Patriots. Ridley will likely find a cold market in a loaded running back class, but a reunion remains unlikely.

Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt said the team will "do everything we can" to re-sign impending free agent FS Eric Berry.

"Eric is somebody that’s very important to the franchise," Hunt said. "Coach (Andy) Reid and his staff think highly of him. They appreciate the leader that he’s become, and obviously personally, he had the amazing year overcoming cancer." Berry confirmed the two sides have opened contract negotiations, but he said the situation is in his "agent's hands." The Chiefs have six defensive starters set to become free agents, but Berry is clearly the top priority.
