Matt Thornton (Achilles) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session on Saturday.

He shed his walking boot about two weeks and just recently resumed throwing. Saturday was his third bullpen session since the injury. "It’s healing, but it’s not healed," said Thornton. "We’re getting closer." Thornton said he'll advance to "full body weight" jogging on a treadmill next week but there's still no timetable for his return.

Curt Casali hit a walk-off single as the Rays topped the Blue Jays 4-3 on Saturday.

With runners on second and third and no outs, Casali lined a single over the drawn-in infield to bring home the winning run. The single was his only hit in four at-bats. Casali has served as the Rays' primary catcher this season but hasn't brought much to the plate, batting .146/.180/.250 overall.
Apr 30 - 9:48 PM

Jose Bautista hit a two-run home run in Saturday's loss to the Rays.

Bautista connected for the two-run shot against Rays starter Chris Archer in the third inning. It was his fifth home run of the season, giving him 18 RBI and 16 runs scored. He's hitting .250 with a .928 OPS through 25 games.
Apr 30 - 9:43 PM

Evan Longoria hit his fourth home run in a win over the Blue Jays on Saturday.

Longoria connected for a solo blast in the sixth inning, his only hit in four at-bats. April hasn't been kind to the 30-year-old, who's hitting .232/.263/.421 in the month. Historically, April has been his best month, so hopefully he bucks the trend and continues to get better as the season goes along.
Apr 30 - 9:40 PM

Logan Forsythe went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in Saturday's win over the Blue Jays.

Forsythe also walked in the game, reaching base in all four plate appearances. The solo homer in the seventh inning tied the game and set the stage for the Rays' walk-off winner in the ninth. Forsythe has carried his 2015 breakout into this year, batting .341/.426/.610 with four homers, 10 RBI, 14 runs scored and three steals as the Rays' leadoff hitter.
Apr 30 - 9:33 PM

J.A. Happ allowed three runs on six hits over 6 2/3 innings in Saturday's no-decision against the Rays.

Happ pitched into the seventh and was an out away from getting through the inning with a one-run lead, but Logan Forsythe's solo home run tied the game and ended Happ's day. The southpaw walked three while striking out seven in the game. He's registered a quality start in each of his five starts this season, posting a 2.76 ERA overall. Happ will next take on the Rangers on Thursday.
Apr 30 - 9:30 PM

Chris Archer allowed two runs over six innings in a no-decision against the Blue Jays on Saturday.

Archer was effectively wild, allowing just one hit over his six innings but walking four. The other problem is that the one hit left the yard, as Jose Bautista's two-run homer accounted for both runs against Archer. The right-hander struck out four as well. That's two good starts in a row for Archer after a miserable beginning to the year. He'll continue to work on that 5.01 ERA when he faces the Angels on Saturday.
Apr 30 - 9:26 PM

Carlos Martinez was given permission to leave the team Friday to deal with a civil lawsuit he's facing in South Florida.

The issue was brought to the Cardinals' attention on Thursday and Martinez was given permission to leave shortly after. Martinez is already back with the club but based on the allegations made, this could be something that falls under the league's new domestic violence policy. As of now, the league has not contacted the Cardinals about any pending disciplinary action. Martinez will start as planned Sunday against the Nationals.
