Giants prospect shortstop Christian Arroyo went 3-for-5 for short season-A Salem-Keizer on Monday, raising his season line to .307/.364/.421.

Arroyo struggled to start the season in the Low-A South Atlantic League, but has done much better in the more-age appropriate Northwest League. Arroyo projects as an above-average defensive shortstop who hits near the league average, though his long-term defensive home remains up in the air.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Yankees have acquired third baseman Chase Headley from the Padres.

Neither team has confirmed the deal, but the Yankees will send infielder Yangervis Solarte and prospect right-hander right-hander Rafael De Paula to the Padres. New York will also receive $1 million from San Diego to help cover part of the nearly $4 million remaining on Headley's contract for this season.

Mariners prospect outfielder Gabriel Guerrero went 2-for-4 with a double for High-A High Desert on Monday.

Guerrero is in the midst of an 11-game hit streak during which he has hit .340/.365/.460. After a poor June, during which he hit .247/.281/.315, Guerrero looks like he could hit .300 for his third out of four months, while posing an OPS higher than 800. His aggressive approach will likely make him a one level per year prospect, but he has the raw talent to hit .300 with 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases.

Jack Curry of YES Network reports that the Yankees are finalizing a deal to acquire third baseman Chase Headley from the Padres.

David Waldstein of the New York Times hears that Yangervis Solarte and Rafael De Paula will head to San Diego. That's obviously be a lot less than the Padres could have received a year or two ago, but his value has taken a hit since then and he's also due to be a free agent this offseason. The Yankees will also receive cash in the deal. Headley is batting just .229/.296/.355 with seven home runs and 32 RBI over 77 games this season, but he has played better of late and could finish strong in the hitter-friendly Yankee Stadium. There's no question that he's an upgrade over what the Yankees currently have at third base.

Pirates prospect catcher Reese McGuire went 3-for-5 with a double for Low-A West Virginia on Monday.

McGuire had a brutal June, hitting .213/.272/.267, and has improved slightly in July, hitting .258/.262/.306. It is common for prospects in their first full season to struggle with the grind of travel and games, but McGuire has struggled with the bat all season, hitting just .263/.310/.309 with eight doubles, one triple, and one home run. McGuire has All-Star potential, and has controlled the running game, throwing out 42 percent of all base stealers for the season.

Athletics prospect third baseman Renato Nunez went 3-for-4 with a home run and a walk for High-A Stockton on Monday, raising his season line to .287/.350/.562.

The 20-year old Nunez has been raking since the beginning of June, putting up a .340/.412/.712 line with 11 doubles, one triple, and 15 home runs. He profiles as a solid major league starter with some power and below-average defense, which may force him to first base in the future.
Jul 22 - 12:50 PM

Mets shortstop prospect went 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base for short season-A Brooklyn on Monday.

The 18-year old Rosario is hitting .281/.340/.344 in the NY-Penn League, but has 12 errors in 35 games at shortstop, good for a .907 fielding percentage. He lacks the upside of teammate and first-round pick Michael Conforto, but has the talent to turn into a good defensive shortstop who hits .300.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Blue Jays are showing interest in re-acquiring Rangers outfielder Alex Rios.

It's interesting, since the Blue Jays let Rios go for nothing to the White Sox in 2009, but they are considering a reunion now that they are starving for offense and his contract doesn't look nearly as bad as it once did. He's making $12.5 million this season and his contract includes a $13.5 million team option for 2015. The Rangers will almost certainly pick it up if they keep him, so they'd likely want a sizable return. The Royals and Mariners are among the other teams who have interest in Rios.
