Mariners acquired LHP Roenis Elias from the Red Sox for a player to be named or cash.

Elias returns to his original organization after never getting any sort of chance to make his mark in Boston; he pitched just eight innings in the majors over two-plus seasons after coming over with Carson Smith in the Wade Miley trade. He makes a lot of sense for a Mariners team lacking rotation depth. The Red Sox had been using him as a reliever in Triple-A, so he'll have to be stretched back out in the minors. However, he could see time in the Mariners rotation later this year. He was 15-20 with a 3.97 ERA for the club between 2014 and 2015.

White Sox transferred RHP Danny Farquhar (brain) to the 60-day disabled list.

It was announced Monday that Farquhar would be in the hospital for at least the next three weeks after suffering a hemorrhage in his brain caused by a ruptured aneurysm.

Carson Fulmer is starting on Monday against the Mariners.

Fulmer was originally scheduled to pitch on Tuesday, but the White Sox are bumping his start up a day early because of the injury to Miguel Gonzalez (shoulder). He's coming of a clunker of a start where he went just one inning and allowed four runs to the Athletics on Wednesday.

White Sox purchased the contract of RHP Chris Beck from Triple-A Charlotte.

Beck receives the promotion after Miguel Gonzalez was sent to the disabled list with inflammation in his right shoulder. A second-round pick out of Georgia Southern in 2012, Beck has put up decent numbers at the minor league level, but hasn't figured out big-league hitters at all. He and his career 6.38 ERA can be avoided entirely in fantasy.
Apr 23 - 12:55 PM

White Sox placed RHP Miguel Gonzalez on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to April 19 with right shoulder inflammation.

The White Sox are calling up Chris Beck from Triple-Charlotte to take Gonzalez's place on the 25-man roster. The 33-year-old right-hander was rocked in his last start against the A's on Tuesday for eight runs in three innings, and he's given up a whopping 24 hits in his 12 1/3 innings to begin 2018. He'll miss at least a start, with a good chance of it being more as shoulder injuries rarely are short-term.
Apr 23 - 12:52 PM

Clay Buchholz gave up one run in 6 1/3 innings in his start on Sunday for Triple-A Omaha.

Buccholz allowed just three hits with one walk, and he struck out three. The 33-year-old has pitched well in his two minor league starts, and there are reports that the former Boston and Philadelphia hurler could make his Kansas City debut on Saturday in a doubleheader against the Red Sox. His struggles over the past few years make him a risky fantasy proposition, but at the very least he's worth monitoring going forward.
Apr 23 - 11:26 AM

Tigers recalled OF Mike Gerber from Triple-A Toledo.

Gerber was recently added to the roster as the 26th man for a doubleheader against the Royals on Friday, but was sent down shortly after. The 25-year-old outfielder will likely serve as a fourth outfielder for the Tigers, and he's shown flashes of offensive upside in his time in the Detroit system, as seen in his career .828 OPS in the minors.
Apr 23 - 11:20 AM

Tigers designated RHP Drew VerHagen for assignment.

VerHagen, 27, was removed for the 25-man roster in order to create space for outfielder Mike Gerber, who was called up Monday. The right-hander has struggled in his nine appearances for the Tigers in 2018, with a 6.30 ERA and seven walks in 10 innings as evidence.
