Phillies left-handed pitching prospect Jesse Biddle struck out 10 batters in seven innings on Wednesday for Double-A Reading.

Biddle allowed two hits and walked one batter in his best start of the season. Biddle threw 111 pitches, inducing seven groundouts, six flyouts, zero line drives, and two popups. He sports a 2.86 ERA and a 12.1 K/9 rate, while batters are hitting .213/.265/.352 off him. Biddle is rapidly climbing the Phillies pitching depth chart, and could make his appearance with his hometown Phillies later this season.

Pirates prospect first baseman Stetson Allie hit two home runs on Wednesday, bringing his season line to .291/.400/.655 for Double-A Altoona.

He is hitting .444/.565/1.222 over his past five games with four walks, four strikeouts, two doubles, and four home runs. Allie has taken major steps forward this year, most notable is his significant decrease in his strikeout rate. He also has a career low .287 BABIP, which indicates that his batting average could see an increase. He still strikes out too much, but he may be a viable stash option in the deepest of leagues.

Hanley Ramirez finished 2-for-4 with a solo homer in the Dodgers' 5-2 victory over the Phillies on Wednesday.

Ramirez's leadoff blast to straight-away center field off reliever Mario Hollands in the eighth inning provided the Dodgers a valuable insurance run in what was, at the time, a 3-2 affair. This was a much-needed positive performance from the scuffling star who entered play batting just .234. The media had speculated that Han-Ram was still suffering from hand pain stemming from his beaning in San Francisco last week; in the six games since, he'd gone 2-for-22 (.091 average), with both hits being singles. But the shortstop insisted it wasn't a problem, and he perhaps ended that discussion this evening.
Apr 24 - 1:29 AM

Kenley Jansen struck out one over a perfect ninth inning to lock down his eighth save of the season in Wednesday's victory over the Phillies.

Jansen tossed 17 pitches in a tie game (and eventual loss) on Tuesday night and turned around 24 hours later to finish off the Phillies with 14 offerings. Jansen, now 8-for-10 in save conversions to go with a 3.46 ERA and 1.54 WHIP, has dialed up four straight scoreless appearances. He's appeared in five games over the past week, so Brian Wilson might be called upon if the Dodgers manufacture a save opportunity on Thursday.
