Sportsnet's Shi Davidi reports that the Blue Jays will call up Dan Johnson prior to Friday's game.

They need someone to take the roster spot of Adam Lind (foot), who is headed to the DL. Johnson has batted .248/.402/.471 with 17 homers over 94 games this season for Triple-A Buffalo. He would figure to see plenty of playing time at first base and the DH spot and is worth scooping up in AL-only leagues.

Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Cardinals are not interested in A.J. Pierzynski.

It was natural to connect the recently designated for assignment Pierzynski to the Cards following Yadier Molina's thumb injury, but there doesn't appear to be a fit. Pierzynski hit only .254/.286/.348 for the Red Sox and reportedly did not fit in well in their clubhouse.

Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that George Kottaras is "of interest" to the Cardinals.

The Cards, of course, are looking for a catcher following Yadier Molina's thumb surgery. Goold notes that Kottaras, who was designated for assignment by the Indians earlier this week, "has done well offensively" and "has a solid reputation in the game and experience at the position." Another catcher who could interest the Cardinals is John Buck, who was also just designated for assignment. They could also consider a trade for Kurt Suzuki. Goold says the club does not have interest in A.J. Pierzynski.

Brett Oberholtzer could be recalled to start on Saturday against the Red Sox.

Collin McHugh is nursing a right fingernail avulsion and will be pushed back at least until Sunday. Oberholtzer, who was scratched from a scheduled outing Tuesday at Triple-A Oklahoma City, holds a 4.66 ERA over 11 starts with the big club this season.

Collin McHugh (finger) will not start on Saturday against the Red Sox as originally hoped.

McHugh, who is dealing with a right fingernail avulsion, had his bullpen session pushed back from Thursday to Friday. It's possible he'll be able to start Sunday, though the Astros could just decide to hold him out until after the All-Star break. Brett Oberholtzer was scratched from Tuesday's scheduled outing at Triple-A Oklahoma City and seems likely to take the ball Saturday.

Royals released RHP Ramon Troncoso.

Troncoso has spent all season at Triple-A Omaha, where he's posted a 4.30 ERA with 33 strikeouts over 44 innings. The 31-year-old will now try to latch on elsewhere.

Victor Martinez (oblique) said that the way he felt Thursday "is by far the best in a while."

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus has said that it's unlikely V-Mart returns before the All-Star break, but his improvement Thursday leaves the door open. Ultimately, the club figures to play it safe and rest their DH until next week.

Rockies activated OF Carlos Gonzalez from the 15-day disabled list.

CarGo had surgery last month to remove a benign tumor from his left index finger, but he hit .385/.467/1.077 with a couple homers during four rehab games to show he was ready. He'll be moved to right field upon his return. Gonzalez was hitting a disappointing .255/.307/.449 over 52 games before the injury but should improve upon that line with his finger no longer an issue.
