Elvis Andrus was scratched from the Rangers' Cactus League lineup Monday with a stiff lower back.
It doesn't sound like something that will affect his status for the start of the season. Andrus is batting .389/.410/.639 in 39 plate appearances this spring.
Indians optioned OF Tyler Holt to Triple-A Columbus.
Holt was 11-for-42 (.262) with two extra-base hits in 18 games this spring in the Cactus League. He'll function as organizational outfield depth for the Tribe.
White Sox reassigned RHP Chris Beck to minor league camp.
Beck had a decent showing this spring in the Cactus League, but the 24-year-old right-hander was never really in consideration for an Opening Day roster spot. He should get a shot at some point this summer.
Denard Span (abdomen) said Sunday that he isn't sure when he'll be cleared to play in rehab games.
Span is making steady progress from his second core muscle surgery -- he ran sprints and took swings with a fungo bat this past weekend in Florida -- but the Nationals have not yet mapped out a rehab assignment for him. Span probably won't be activated from the disabled list until sometime in early-to-mid May. Michael Taylor is expected to be Washington's primary center fielder in April.
Justin Verlander told reporters Monday that he's taking it "day to day" with his ailing triceps.
Verlander had to be pulled from a Grapefruit League start Friday due to discomfort in his throwing arm and he won't take his next turn in the Tigers' spring rotation on Thursday. This isn't believed to be a serious injury, but the veteran right-hander may have to open the 2015 regular season on the 15-day disabled list.
Orioles reassigned C J.P. Arencibia to minor league camp.
Arencibia is currently fighting through a flexor mass strain in his right arm. He wasn't expected to make the Orioles' Opening Day roster anyway and will presumably begin the 2015 season at Triple-A Norfolk.
Tanner Scheppers will get an MRI on his right ankle.
Scheppers sprained the ankle in early March and then re-aggravated it on Sunday afternoon. Opening Day is just a week away, so the right-handed reliever may have to spend some time on the disabled list.
Rangers optioned RHP Nick Tepesch to Triple-A Round Rock.
Nick Martinez took the final spot in the Rangers' rotation, so Tepesch will act as organizational depth. Tepesch had a 10.38 ERA this spring in the Cactus League.
