Padres recalled INF Jose Rondon from Double-A San Antonio.

The 22-year-old infielder will provide depth for the Padres and should be given an opportunity to show what he can do. Rondon was hitting .279/.310/.386 with five homers, 44 RBI and 13 stolen bases at Double-A.

Giants optioned OF Jarrett Parker to Triple-A Sacramento.

Parker was the odd-man out with Eduardo Nunez joining the club on Friday and Hunter Pence due back on Saturday. He'll continue to provide depth at Triple-A and should be back with the Giants in September or should injury strike in the outfield.
Jul 30 - 1:01 PM

Francisco Cervelli did not suffer any structural damage from getting hit by a pitch on his right foot during Friday's game.

The backstop should be considered day-to-day and will avoid a trip to the disabled list. Don't be surprised if he sits out on Saturday as a precautionary measure before returning to the lineup on Sunday.
Jul 30 - 12:44 PM

Yulieski Gurriel has had his visa approved and will debut with the Gulf Coast League Astros on Saturday.

The 32-year-old Cuban slugger is expected to need a couple of weeks of at-bats in the minor leagues before joining the Astros in mid-August. He aigned a five-year, $47.5 million deal with the Astros last week and is expected to start at third base once he arrives.
Jul 30 - 12:41 PM

Justin Smoak is not in the Blue Jays starting lineup on Saturday.

In an alignment that may start to happen more often, Edwin Encarnacion is getting the start at first base while Jose Bautista serves as the designated hitter and Melvin Upton gets the call in right field.
Jul 30 - 12:32 PM

Anthony Rizzo is not in the Cubs starting lineup for Saturday afternoon's contest against the Mariners.

It's nothing more than a day of rest for the hard-hitting first baseman against southpaw Wade Miley. Willson Contreras will start at first base and bat seventh for the Cubs on Saturday.
Jul 30 - 12:29 PM

Mariners recalled RHP Cody Martin from Triple-A Tacoma.

He'll provide depth in the M's middle relief corps while Nate Karns is sidelined. Martin owns a 2.25 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 2/1 K/BB ratio in four innings with the big league club this season.
Jul 30 - 12:28 PM

Mariners placed RHP Nate Karns on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back strain.

The right-hander has lost all fantasy relevance since his demotion to the bullpen, so this isn't major news. He should be ready to rejoin the M's bullpen in mid-August.
