Justin Verlander (triceps) will throw a simulated game on Tuesday.
If that goes well, he should then be cleared to begin a rehab assignment. Verlander has been out all season with a strained right triceps but has progressed nicely the last couple weeks after resuming a throwing program. Still, he probably won't be activated until mid-June even in a best-case scenario.
Samuel Deduno (back) will throw a bullpen session Saturday.
Deduno was sent for an MRI on his ailing back, but it evidently came back clean and he's ready to throw again. He'll be used in long relief once activated.
Rangers recalled OF Jake Smolinski from Triple-A Round Rock.
Smolinski batted just .140/.290/.220 batting line over 62 plate appearances for the Rangers earlier this season. He'll likely be around only for the weekend, as Josh Hamilton (shoulder) is due to be activated Monday.
Rangers placed 1B/DH Kyle Blanks on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 20, with a pilonidal cyst.
Blanks was off to a .322/.365/.542 start with three homers over 15 games for the Rangers, but he's now making yet another trip to the DL. It's not clear how long he'll be out. Jake Smolinski has replace him on the roster.
The Twins have moved pitching prospect Alex Meyer to the bullpen at Triple-A Rochester.
It's hard to imagine the Twins giving up on Meyer as a starter, but for now they'll see if he can rediscover himself while working in shorter stints. The 25-year-old has struck out 41 over 39 1/3 innings at Rochester this season but has also walked 24 while holding a 7.09 ERA. Meyer entered the season ranked by Baseball Prospectus as the No. 14 prospect in baseball.
Michael Morse is not in the Marlins' lineup Friday.
The slumping veteran has been seeing quite a bit of time off lately. Justin Bour is at first base in Morse's place.
Christian Yelich is not in the Marlins' lineup Friday.
Yelich is down to .180/.263/.236 for the season and will get a day off to regroup. Ichiro Suzuki is covering left field.
Jake Marisnick is not in the Astros' lineup Friday.
The slumping Marisnick has now sat out two of the last four games and three of the last seven. Preston Tucker is in left field, while Colby Rasmus slides over to center.
